indeed, then the series goes rampaging downhill, until the traversties that were rocky IV and rocky V. rocky III's only redeeming feature was the presence of mr T. the whole series was on TV recently, and i'd never seen the first one before. it is cheesy in places (although that was apparently due to the studio going through stallone's script with a bulldozer) but an excellent and enjoyable film nonetheless.

It's part of the communal experience of going to a movie; you and several hundred of your closest friends get to gasp when Jango Fett loses his head or cheer for Rocky when he beats Apollo Creed and gets the girl. That's why movie theaters will never be supplanted by video or DVD; people want to have an experience, not just see a film.
I couldn't agree more,

I saw the special edition movies in the cinema to, all tree after each other (i've done worse things, not long ago i saw all 9 startrek movies after eachother)
Only i had a different audience, they all cheered when Darth Vader appeared.

But I think you named it well, AotC (and the other starwars movies) aren't realy films, their experiences.
I realy liked AotC but when i wanted to rate it at imdb, i couldn't give it more that a 6according to my standarts in witch i rate movies. The acting is poor, and so is the story.
But the complete movie makes it so good.

Only one thing that bothers me, and that is why the name Obi-wan Kenobi didn't ring a bell with R2D2 and C3PO in a new hope, they should know him!!!
I do not have the touch, nor do I have the power.

Actually I think Apollo was declared the winner, but Rocky won a personal victory by being the first person to ever knock Apollo Creed down and go the distance without being knocked out himself. That's what made the movie great, it wasn't some contrived plot about the little guy beating the champ. It was all about how Rocky saw himself and how he proved who he was.

Droids can be memory wiped, so that continuity error is easily fixed. I’m more concerned why Obi-Wan didn’t remember them! That also goes for Anakin and Owen not remembering C-3PO (one could argue that Vader never really got a good look at 3PO on Besbin, or that Protocol Droids can have redundant voices, since they already all look the same). Still, it knda bugs me.

You know, there's a reason why those are all in the category of Shakespeare's tragedies, rather than his comedies or history plays... :p ;)

@HLD - I haven't actually seen Rocky, but I thought that he loses to Apollo Creed?
For the so-called greatest writer of english literature he didn't put very much variety into his endings.

I thought Othello was pretty funny in places, myself.

I think you're missing the point of tragedy :p :D

Yeah, even the tragedies have amusing parts - that's what they call comic relief ;)

I can see tragedy any time I want by watching the news or soap operas (the acting makes it tragic :D ). I far prefer watching things I enjoy.

But this wasn't about whether you enjoy Shakespeare or not, you were complaining that his tragedies all have tragic endings! :p (BTW I agree that your soap operas are tragic, could you please arrange for them to stop being made and exported to the UK? :D )

You so were complaining. :p Anyway, you'll find if you read one of his plays that isn't a tragedy, it might just have a happier ending ;) (They're in the post  :D )

Was so not! :p I saw A Midsummer Night's Dream at the theatre, but i couldn't stop thinking about Terry Pratchett's Lords and Ladies and I couldn't stop laughing. The couple behind me weren't too impressed, as I recall.
(Ramsay Street here I come! :D )

Such is my one of my arguements against Lucas. :p

After thinking about the movie for a while, I'll grant that it is a good movie, better then I made it out to be when I saw it. A lot of my arguements are still (I hope) credable, though. I still don't have the zeal for it that our friend Kayless has, though. :p

Punch and Judy is good too. I'd love to see a Shakespearean Punch and Judy, though. :D

Rated PG!!!

Just saw Star Wars...

Just saw Attack of the Clones...

The good (the really, really good) - Natalie Portman! Oh my gosh, what a babe! She looked gorgeous in every costume (especially the bare-back dress on the balcony!), in every scene, in every locale, under every shade of light and darkness. I loved her eyes - very expressive. She could communicate her emotions just by looking at someone, in a Toby-McGuire-ish kind of way. But I actually found her character's sense of loyalty more attractive. For example, when Anakin confessed to slaughtering the Tuskan raiders who brutalized and killed his mother - women and children alike - Amidala didn't recoil in shock or horror and turn away from him in disgust; she sat down beside him and gave him her shoulder to cry on. And for all her talk of duty and responsibility to the Republic, it was painfully obvious that she considered her relationship with Anakin to be more important, and that she loved him as much or even more so than he loved her. She was just better at hiding it because of her greater maturity; Anakin was a virgin after all, and she as a politician could dissemble with the best of them. I thought the wedding scene at the end very fitting, and totally in line with inner her character; like Anakin, she "gave in to her feelings," and dropped all pretense of a higher calling to marry the person she loved, sacrosanct Jedi and Senatorial vows notwithstanding. Suffice it to say, I think I understand how all those teenage girls felt towards Leonardo after watching Titanic. I left the theater and went to sleep unable to get her face and figure out of my mind ("sigh"). Uh, anyway... I think I've written enough. I'll finish the rest of the review later.
:)

Edited to include footnotes;

Come to think of it, had Anakin and Amidala not violated those rules, Luke would not have been born, the Dark Side would have prevailed, and the Jedi Order would have become extinct. It'll be interesting to see how their relationship plays out in Episode III. From what I know so far, Luke had no recollection of his mother, while Leia retained beautiful but sad memories of her. Neither had any recollection of their father. The one scene that Lucas has already shot in Tunisia (Tatooine) last year involved Obi-Wan bringing the infant Luke to his aunt and uncle for safe-keeping. I think the final falling out between Obi-an and Anakin, and the climactic battle which Anakin loses along with several other body parts, will be over the infant Luke, who Amidala implores Obi-Wan (just before she dies?) to keep safe from his father, who spiralling descent to the dark side she finally realizes cannot be stopped.
