Kafka-esque indeed. This cannot be insurmountable surely. Loads of people must find themselves in the situation. There must be other things they will accept. As Rav said, here a national insurance card, or medical card will do. Utility bills will serve (though that probably doesn't help you much). Student registration card? I don't know what you get as of right in the US but there must be a mechanism for dealing with this
 ...those wont even get me into an adult book store:laugh::angel: .....I doubt they would get me a Birth certificate :( .....but I have ways of working the system over as well....besides I can just mug my mom and have her deal with them  she should be enough Identification...... ;)

Well I would hope so. But given how hard this seems to be I would check it out in case mere motherhood is not enough. They may worry you were swopped at birth :D

Anyone listed on your birth certificate can request a copy through the State (i.e. your Mom or Dad). Also, if you have a Social Security Card you can also request your birth certificate.

Good luck dealing with the CA state offices though, they are SLOW!!!

Sounds more like catch 22 than Kafka to me...

Checked with google and that seems to be right. Don't seem to have the book anymore
