OK, Zhycxss goes for broke!

Picked up Shield of Balduran and went into the Sewers. Scouted out the whole place with Wizard Eye (handy, those!).

Foolishly opened the Shade Lich's coffin while I was unprepared (that is, didn't have all my good spells or Daystar). While he has his evil rant, I go into my inventory to see if there's some nice scroll of Chain Lightning in there or something. I look around for some time (not finding anything particularly useful), then exit the inventory screen, only to see the Lich standing right next to me, Fireshield up and all that. Screen darkens... Disintegrating hand.

Whilst searching for some half of a rod I meet Beholders! Yay, guess what, I break out the Shield of Uber-Cheesy Beholder Slaying and let them bounce their rays. These Beholders must be pretty smart, because they stop bouncing after some time ( :D ). I expect them to charge at me to bite me to pieces, but instead they start biting each other! Hey, that wasn't supposed to happen! Some time later they stop and come at me while I beat up a lone Gauth that paralyzed itself. Uh-oh, Stoneskin runs out while I'm being bitten by 5 Beholders. I try to cast a new one, but guess what? Anti-Magic rays have given me 100% spell failure. I am forced to run around a bit (with my Boots of Godly Speed) and bash them apart one by one.

[AGAIN annoying messages about images... Must be the smileys.]

Did I mention Melf's Minute Meteors are the greatest? And that they also make your off-hand attack? Couple of times I guess, but what I hadn't mentioned yet is that Belm +2 in off-hand messes up their attack rate instead of adding another. Only two per round. Before casting Melf's, I take Arbane's Sword in my main hand and place Flail of Ages in the left (hitting someone with the Flail from across the screen continues to amuse me :D ).

Minor Spell Turning is wonderful! I have lost count of the number of deadly traps this thing has absorbed so far. It becomes especially interesting with Lightning traps. The bolt continues through you and is deflected, which generates a second bolt in another direction. :D

I meet a bunch of pessimists with a nasty skin disease. Ew, weird folk. I step into their temple, and this demonic looking thing called a Pathetic Manifestation or something comes running at me, screaming "Damage me! Damage me!". I ain't the type that gives Demons what they ask for, so I decide to heal him. Guess what? My script used up my innate Cure Light Wounds about five minutes ago. I cast Mislead, run back out of the temple, and have to run back all the way up to the next level before I can rest undisturbed by the sounds of battle.

Refreshed, I go back and cast my Cure. The pathetic thingy turns into someone that must eat nails on a regular basis, judging from his voice! Oh well, he gives me the thingy I came for, so he must be OK. I go back up and prepare to meet the Eye itself.

Zhycxss just keeps on going!

I run into some zombie that wants to "warn the mayor". While he tells me this (in dialogue mode), a bunch of Ghasts comes walking over and start attacking me! Nice bug, Bioware... :p

I go after the zombie, meet some Ghoul called "Mayor" that really wants a piece of me, bash him and his cronies into chunks, walk a bit further into his "town hall", and run into the following random encounter:

1 Lich
2 Greater Mummies
3 Skeleton Warriors
Assorted Ghast & Mummy trash

WTF!? I thought Liches were supposed to be special and extremely rare, not something you run into when you stroll into the sewers!

This is, without a doubt, the toughest fight I've had so far. All the spells I usually prep myself with before combat have expired a while ago... I Mislead, send the decoy up against the horde, and run off into some corner to hide and prepare. While I'm nosing through my inventory, the game unpauses AGAIN, and when I exit the inventory screen, Mr. Lich has just finished his Time Stop, Symbol - Stun - Fear - Death routine. Exit one decoy.

I pump out a Simulacrum (Vhailor's Helmet), Ras +2, a Skeleton Warrior and the Berserker from the Horn of Valhalla. Simmy uses his Scroll of Protection from Magic on me. This turns out to be a poor move, as it disables my spellcasting abilities. I will have to rely on my items, innate abilities, and the few spells Simmy can cast. Simmy produces another Berserker and Ras +2.

Together we hold off on the advance of enemy troops for quite some time, but my force is slowly cut down to only the Skeleton Warrior (supportive Hastes and Chain Lightnings notwithstanding). I reach for my doomsday device: my Spell Sequencer with three Skull Traps. We're driven into a corner, but I figure that, since Skelly is 90% magic resistant, and I am 100% thanks to the scroll, only our enemies will suffer. The Skull Traps fly loose, and the next thing I see is a disintegrating hand!

[continued from previous post]

Let's try that again; this time without Protection from Magic. That thing is clearly overrated. Not using out-of-character knowledge, I walk up to the Lich as before, without preparations (though I make sure to re-arrange my inventory beforehand).

As soon as I see Mr. Lich (so strange... a Lich with no name... a generic Lich!?), I summon my ultimate blocker: a Wizard Eye. :D He soaks up the usual Time Stop Symbol Symbol Symbol (man, those Liches need better AI!), but is then killed off by a Remove Magic.

I pump out Simmy and Skelly. Me and Simmy move back a bit. While Mr. Lich wastes his spells on Skelly, me and Simmy beat up the Greater Mummies and Skeleton Warriors (with the help of Ras +2, the Berserker and their illusory doubles, of course). After that, Mr. Lich quickly falls to the mighty Flail of Ages (that thing is awesome!).

I gain my final level! So sad... I'll never hear that mystical, ringing sound again... (until ToB, of course). And still no Project Image! What's a guy to do..?

I enter the Unseeing Eye's lair. Loads of Beholders and Gauths here; the Shield of Beholder Slaying gets them again, though I wish they would just keep shooting their rays instead of Death-Spelling Skelly, dispelling my Stoneskins and biting me half dead. :D

Wizard Eye scouts out the place, since this is obviously no walk in the park. It spots a bunch of blind priests. Those don't look like they are there for tea and biscuits, so I send Simmy over to deal with them while I remain out of sight. :D

Simmy instantly gets blinded from several sides at once and is nearly deafened as well by the sound of about 10 spells firing off simultaneously. Since when do priests have contingencies!? Simmy is then confused, my Wizard Eye is dispelled, about 15 or so animals are summoned, Defensive Harmonies, Bless and Chants fly all over the place, and I am so glad not to be anywhere near that at all! :D

I wait patiently while Simmy gets the beating of his life. These priests really love overkill! They should save something for later, as they'll soon find out... A couple of Flame Strikes later, Simmy bites the dust. I move in, fire off my trusty Spell Sequenced trio of Skull Traps, throw one Melf's Minute Meteor for good measure, and the fight is over before it even started.

[continued... If I'm boring anyone, just say so :D I figured this was the thread for spam, so...]

I run around and stumble upon the other half of the Rift Device. It sounds rather powerful... I should hang on to this! When I turn around, none other than the Unseeing Eye itself blocks my way. I summon Simmy, and while the Eye activates protections all over the place, Simmy fires off the Rift Device. :D One hit is all it takes to kill the Eye after that. This thing is fun! Good that I kept it.

I go back up to the blind rebels, and decide to open that big sarcophagus that radiates evil. Shade Lich appears, has evil rant, Simmy blasts him with the Rift Device :D , I throw two Melf's for a total of 12 damage and he goes down! Damn, this Rift thing is good! Too bad I'm warned not to take it outside (or die and suffer greatly...).

I go looking for Gaal. He rants, attacks me, I pump out my buddies... end of story; back to the Temple, get reputation, a lousy shield, a lousier mace, and... a Quest! Wow, this must be something, now that I've proven myself worthy by slaying two Liches, seven Beholders and hordes of Gauths, cultists, mummies, ghasts... I can hardly surpress my pride and say: "What can I do for you?". What? You want me to ask some artist to make a painting for you? What am I? Some errand boy!?

Apparently, yes. :(

If Zhycxss doesn't hurry his ass up and finish his never-ending story he's gonna get eaten by the dragon Khaylesss. Image Image j/k, Xyx. ;) But your story would be better if it included a few fire breathing bunnies that bite peoples’ heads off. Or a Hell Orca. :D

Nature’s first green is gold,
Her hardest hue to hold.
Her early leaf’s a flower;
But only so an hour.
Then leaf subsides to leaf.
So Eden sank to grief,
So dawn goes down to day.
Nothing gold can stay.

hey, but one thing is for sure, if xyx's posts on his character continue, at this rate we'll hit 5000 in no time.

@xyx- my solo thief i am tryign out right now also came face to face with that lich in the sewers. and after several failed attempts, i decided that with 18 dexterity, those gauntlets are just pointless and not worth it.

ok my dual play with my fighter/thief and Edwin doesn't work out the way i planned.
Silk (my char) can't get 5 stars in either short sword or short bow :( :( .
i hate that  .

and i know all the quest all through so it ain't really fun anymore.
any idea how to make it more fun???

The combo Edwin/Silk is working great how ever.
my top combo:
Edwin: cast Web, Magic Missle, Acid/Fire Arrow.
Silk: Hide in Shadows.
Silk, equiped with Arbane's Sword ;) :D , hacks all the enemies.
Edwin: cast Web, Magic Missle, Acid/Fire Arrow.

It works great won many 'difficult' battles this way.
i'm now goiing to do all the trademeet quests (the rashakas will be a little hard it think (yes a challange :D )

and then it is of to the Keep, the Hills and a visit to Fikraag.
And then it's is of my way to Spellhold/Underdark/Hell.

i was soloing with a thief, but it just became tedious and boring to me. it just isn't as much fun as soloing a sorcerer.
so here is my reasoning for why a sorcerer is the most fun to solo with, not to mention the easiest:
with every level gained, your whole character changes. you suddenly can do so much more than before. with a fighter, you get one less on your THAC0, big deal. a thief gets a few more points in whatever ability, but the difference is miniscule and unnoticable in the short run. so to me it is just more exciting and there's more drive to play one versus other classes.

so, i quit with my solo thief, but now i am going theough with a party of 4 archers, each with master specialization in either short bow, long bow, and the other two people in crossbows. it's been pretty funny so far. they walk around hidden in shadows, and then unleash this unholy barrage of missiles on enemies. the biggest problem i am having is that for some reason the scripts aren't workign for them, so it is kind of annoying always having to tell them to shoot someone new.

Zhycxss has busied himself some more.

Having been promoted to second-rate errand boy, I ran around to get Illithium for some stupid artist. After much running, I meet Neb. Those who know Neb will appreciate the knowledge that one Spell Sequencer will drop him even before he can summon his ghostly helpers. :D I took his head to Chief Inspector Brega, but did not return his illitium to the stupid artist. Never liked the guy (rich snobs tend to have that effect on me), so I give him some fake illithium instead. He stomps off (good riddance! :D ), but the temple is so pleased with the fake thingy that they promote me to first-rate errand boy. Yay.

I report at the temple of Lathander and learn that I am to get a stolen ring back. What is this? Am I some instrument of murder and mass destruction or a glorified shopping servant? The latter, apparently. Well, at least I get to kill some thieves, and the temple stops bothering me with silly errands after that.

I decide to check up on my familiar, who has been in my backpack for over a month now. Still hasn't rememorized its Invisibility 10' Radius! What's that thing been doing in there all this time!? Only when I rent a room after letting it out of the pack will it rememorize its spells.

Time for a good fight! I decide to check out that suspicious guarded compound in the temple district. I am greeted rather uncourteously by two gentlemen. They Dimension Door away before I even get a chance to fire my sequencer at them! No fun! Before I go upstairs to find them, I relieve myself of my frustration by using a Nishruu and a Glabrezu as unwilling sparring dummies.

Upstairs, some pitiful band of wannabe-adventurers "greets" me. Mislead, they run around after my decoy, three Spell Sequenced Skull Traps blast most of them into oblivion, Magic Missiles clean up.

While looting the place, I am rather unpleasantly surprised by a Maze trap. Minor Spell Turning only bounces spells of level 7 or lower...

Zhycxss reloads.

One Mislead, a Spell Sequencer and a Magic Missile later, I resume my looting. For some stupid reason, Simmy cannot use Knock! When I rest in the street to rememorize my spells, some annoying watchman disturbs my rest! What am I, some beggar? Apparently. I ignore him, and go back to sleep immediately after he moves out of sight.

I have to make four trips to the Copper Coronet before I have hauled all the loot out of there! Boring! I now have 64K gold and nothing to spend it on... And nobody wants to buy my nice, shiny, colorful Rogue Stone!

The Most Noble Order of the Radiant Heart has a mission for me that sounds like search & destroy. More like it! Some Fallen Paladin needs to be taken care of. I meet this person right in the middle of some gang war. I slip into a nearby house to avoid the ever watching eyes of the Cowled Ones, and cast some spells for battle. One day, I will defy them by casting my magic in the streets! When I go out, one of the smugglers has Entangled just about everybody. Fine with me. I decide to cut to the chase and kill Anarg with Melf's Minute Meteors. One of his buddies disentangles himself and comes at me. The last remaining smuggler (who is not hostile towards me) comes up and heals him! Ten seconds ago, he was trying to chop her head off.

Moments later, I am surrounded by corpses. Pleased with my work, I return to Sir Ryan Trawl to report, but he doesn't understand me! He keeps telling me to come back after I finish my work... How much deader does this Anarg guy have to get!?

@ Nael: Yes, I've done this before, but I just wanted to kick some ass this time. :D Must be the Berserker half. ;) It's just odd that this quest is so easily broken. Or would there still be a way to get the guy to show up?

More Zhycxss stories to regale you. :D

I suddenly remembered coming across an open, half-finished grave two months ago, with someone still in it. Better go check... Hey, they guy's still moving! "I am sure I would have died if you had not arrived so soon!", he says... Odd perception of time, some people.

Anyway, after running around, killing various people (that was the good part) and having to listen to some stuck-up woman making demands of me as if I had to rescue her without even a bit of gratefulness for reward, I end up with... Silver Pantaloons! What good are those to further my goal of world domination!?

I have to go back to the money pit that is the D'Arnise Keep. Servant girl wants to marry. I'm about to say: "Well, then let her!" when some annoying rich kid offers me 500 gold if I make her marry him. Yeah, put that with the rest, what would that put me at? 69,000 gold! Do I look like a beggar or something? Apparently, yes.

While fooling around in the Bridge District, I come upon a sarcophagus that bears uncanny resemblance to the one the Shade Lich was in. Am I the kind of guy to let ancient evil slumber? Of course not. I spell up a bit, open the damn thing, listen to some Lich rant about someone called Kangaxx, and proceed to business.

This guy triggers all kinds of contingencies like crazy and manages to get off a Time Stop. Then it's Meteor Swarm, Protection from Evil, Gate. Fine. The Swarm is targeted at Simmy, whose standing right next to him. I am, of course, safely invisible from Mislead. The ongoing Meteor Shower badly injures both the Pit Fiend and the Lich, leaving me to mop up with some Melf's and the Flail of Ages. What a pushover! I hope this Kangaxx fellow is a bit more of a challenge...

Funny, Simmy has used Ras +2, and after the fight, it's both lying on the ground and in my inventory! Oh well, an extra Ras +2 could come in handy, I suppose.

Today i've created an assassin and dualed him to figther at lvl 13....so i have 4 poison weapon per day, good thief stats. I have with me Jahiera (help in battle and druid spells) and Edwin (mage!!!!!! ;) )
This way i plan to have a 3 men party, able to reach high lvls (jahiera able to use the nice druid abilities in ToB). My main character has not too much HP, but i think that the poison weapon ability (i love that)+backstab+the THACO of a fighter will work well....trigger poison weapon while hiding in shadows....backstab enemy mage: dead
Then run and hit all the enemies to deal poison damage to everyone while Jahiera casts insect plague (or creeping doom) and Edwin fire some nasty spells....i'll let you know how it will work.... :p
