Personally, I don't see anything wrong with having two distinct categories--one for "Most Stupid Thing Said in SYM" and one for "Best Post in SYM". :)

It looks like Claudius's post might get nominated for both. :)

By the way, thank you Claudius for the compliment on my signature. (I only put it there to get attention, and I finally got some.) :) And thank you TheAmazingOopah for nominating me for an award.

Nor do I actually. Though I do wonder if a name change wouldn't be an idea..
How about something like:
"The most dazed thing said in SYM"
Or.. "The most ill-advised thing said in SYM"
Or even...
"The most absurd thing said in SYM."

All of those modifiers are more subtle and less demeaning that "stupid" ;)

How about most confused thing said in sym and most needless blabbermouth thing said? As separate categories?

{being confused doesn't condemn a person it just describes a condition. Same with needless blabbermouth chatter}

Confused blabbermouths need love too!
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.

*DW alignment slightly shifts toward "Good". Her avatar slowly opens one eye, winks at Kipi and closes the eye again in a cloud of blue dust.*

*VonDondu alignment slightly shifts toward "Evil". Her avatar desperately adjusts its golden angelic hair trying to conceal the newly sprouted horns. The avatar almost succeeds. Almost.*

To make things easier, you can pick up one of the following lines for your reply:

1. Yes, I realize that by calling a member stupid or declaring a post "most stupid", we humiliate this member publicly, which is against this forum rules. I am going to remove this category ASAP.

*your alignment shifts toward "Lawful Good" and a distinctive Halo of Holiness appears above your avatar. All your previous transgressions are erased from living memory. Buck lovingly smiles at you from above.*

2. Yes, I realize we humiliate people, but I am reluctant to abolish this category completely. I am going to rename it "the funniest thing said".

*you alignment slightly shifts toward "Good" but no Halo appears. Buck still smiles at you from above.*

3. Yes, I realize we humiliate people, but this is their own fault. Why do they keep saying stupid things? I will think about it, but no promises, LD.

*your alignment doesn't change. LD is sad. You think it is actually a good thing she is, for a change. Anyway, who cares what LD says. She is not a Sacred Ancient.*

4. No, I don't realize we humiliate people. Because we don't. We are just having innocent fun at some stupid people's expense. No changes, sorry.

*your alignment slightly shifts toward "Evil". Your avatar is sporting a pair of cute horns.*

(preventive strike: your self-nomination in that category does not count. ;) )
Haha, that posts reminds me more than ever that you can be quite quite funny. :D I hereby nominate you for SYM Funniest Member! :)

I would also like to nominate for Best Signature: Noober,
Heya! Have you been to Baldur's Gate? I've been to Baldur's Gate... Oops, stepped into something. Have you stepped into something?
and AvatarOfLight,
Sage plays a paladin,
because other classes would be frowned upon for laying their hands on a wounded companion.
For Best Avatar: Craig for his delightful ferret with the hat and Kipi - not sure what it is, but it's cool. :p

And for Best Location: Tribblemaker ('The Milky Way') and Necromancer ('Graveyard'). I like how Necromancer's location is so simple yet also very striking, and it fits a Necromancer very well.

Oh, and I want to nominate Fable for Best Moderator. He already got nominated by someone else, but somehow that one got overlooked. Hmmm, what do you have against Fable, Kipi?:mischief:

I pick number two... though to exactly what I'm going to change it is still a bit open...
And btw, the name of that award was copied from the last year's ceremony, and then I copied it from the ceremony year before that, hold (IIRC) by DW herself :D

I never nominated myself, I just reminded what DW suggested back then, so basically it was DW's nomination, not mine ;)

It's one of the main character from wecomic Looking For Group. The character is evil necromancer who has addiction to kill things, usually by fire. I really recommend reading it. :D

It is no problem for me whatever the award is called. But everyone knows it is not nice to call someone stupid or ridicule them. And furthermore it is not the fault of the object of ridicule but it is the fault of those speaking. Plus I maintain that my speech was merely idle chatter. In other words nobody listening to the mention of the 6 paramitas was prepared to engage in them. Thus the speech was idle. It was also coursely delivered speech in intoxication but without negative intentions. Anyone can either laugh at it or ignore it.

Kipi, bad people always blame God, authorities and friends for their own irresponsible actions. :)
Now, close your eyes... take a deep breath... stop twitching, it's OK, relax... all you have to do is to take one more teeny-tiny step... click on EDIT POST... good, very good... you can do it... DELETE the category.

Why delete it? WIth small change we can make it to what it really is supposed to be after all, funny posts posted in SYM...

That's a better idea. Not only will there be no insulting any members, we will be actually encouraging members to post more funny posts and add to the humor value to the forum, therefore making it a better forum, thus increasing the view rate, and making Game Banshee more popular overall. Now that's some logic!

Just for effect....I'll nominate Claudius and Siberys for "Most helpful" again....

....reasoning...well just have a look through the TQ forum section and see how many helpful posts they make let alone all the other forums that I haven't seen....

;)
I've seen things you people wouldn't believe. Attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion. I watched C-beams glitter in the dark near the Tannhauser gate. All those moments will be lost in time, like tears in rain. Time to die.

Thank you Vidar..it is fun to help people...I only hope that I don't give them bad advice! And fun to discuss the games. I know a lot of other people regularly give out game advice just off the top of my head kmonster and aerich were very helpful to me in icewind dale games. So I nominate them too! Loads of people who like to post on forums and share their experiences. I only wish I had better ideas when people are having computer difficulties cause there I am clueless.

Hey guys, I'm back. Missed me? :p

Anyway, does this nomination thing have a deadline? It seems we are almost in the middle of the month and a single vote has yet to be cast.

P.S. Kip is of the Good alignment??!! Excuse me while I laugh like a lunatic.

Sorry all, have been very busy lately...

About the deadline, I was thinking that to end of this week is the deadline for nominations, just to get some noms to awards that has none currently or has only one. After the deadline, well, if there is no nominations, then the award is excluded from this year ceremony. And if there is only one nomination, then the member knows for sure to be a winner :D

Also, I'll update the first page for new nominations tonight, so no worries about something being left unnoticed.
