Georgi saw Jennabard freeze. "What is it?" she whispered... knowing, that whatever was wrong, she felt it too... it was a very bad feeling. She readied her bow, uneasily.

"Now get some sleep, we have some traveling to do." Leaning back on a tree, he looked at the sky through the leaves.

jennabard, still trembling; "help..."

when all of a sudden a mysterious force knock the bard 20 feet in the air before smacking an old oak tree. her body crumbling down to the ground.

georgi and thantor immediately rushed to her side, while the others drew their weapons covering each other against another attack.

jennabard was barely breathing, thantor began to heal what injuries she had. he sensed the disturbing presence retreating.

Georgi had Flametongue at the ready. "What in Helm's name was that?!" she demanded.

OOC: Gwalchmai: Thanks for the musings. Nicely done.
Loner and KramoR: Wow… we should get the two of you an agent!

While jennabard's physical injuries were not trivial, she would recover from them. As he moved his hands in the healing gestures, careful not to touch her in anyway, he could feel the aching rawness of her inner struggle. Though it was something he had confronted many times at the asylum, the tearing pain of it was something one never becames accustomed to. Which is why few clerics choose to be trained in the Shadow Work. If only she would let me aid her, he thought, feeling helpless. But she had not asked for his help, so he respectfully withdrew, doing a simple infinity treatment to help calm and stabilize her ki field.

He stood up, rounding on Georgi. Helplessness had given way to anger. "She should not be traveling in this condition, let alone taking part in a dangerous quest! She should be in cloister where she can get help. When this is finished and we have secured our position for the night, you and I WILL talk." He stormed off and joined Gwalchmai on the edge of the clearing. Calming himself, he began to search energetically for anything hostile. He sensed Shynaria out on the periphery and knew she was concerned. Not yet, amica. The trap is not yet set.

Georgi narrowed her eyes as she angrily watched Thantor retreat, wondering if he was responsible for whatever just happened to Jennabard. Certainly she didn't trust him... She glanced round. Nobody spoke. "Just stay here..." she instructed everyone in an exasperated manner, and in a flash of magic, she was invisible and running silently through the forest.

sleep...sweet sleep.
she hasn't slept in days, each night being a struggle for control. to close her eyes is to invite a battle. but right now she felt at peace. the dark nemesis, caress through her mind like an old lover, pacing and remembering. the nemesis, gentle grabbed her attention; "sleep, we will need our strength."
jennabard mumbled out why? nemesis wrung her hands, "we need to run, hide...HE will take us if we are not careful. I WILL NOT GO BACK" the darkness continue to pace. "anomen is no longer our concern, HE has taken him... HE is testing us or we would have been dead already. sleep"
jennabard for once took her advise and slept deeply.

From her place beside Gwalchmai, Viv had watched in fear and confusion as Jennabard was hurled and hurt, and the rupture in the group that then followed.

She placed a hand on Thantor's arm for a moment after Georgi left, trying to turn his eyes from their brooding.

"Please, have peace. We all do what me must, and now it would be the worse thing to leave Jennabard behind. At least with friends, well, we may be able to help. You do not know her as I do, her heart sings, even as her lyre does.”

She paused for a second before smiling mischievously.

“Though it would be nice if whatever is hurting her would manifest itself. I’d show it the insides of my spell book in some depth.”

She wasn’t sure if her words had any affect on Thantor, but she hoped he understood more the need to protect Jennabard.

With Georgi gone and Jennabard not herself, Vivien felt ill at ease. Thantor was still an unknown, and she was not a strong leader of the group like the others, nor was she strong enough to defend herself if more …ruptures..lead to a physical attack. She felt the heat from Gwalchmai at her side and relaxed, knowing that no harm would come. Though for some reason, while standing near him, her heart beat faster. She shook her head slightly, knowing that she must just be feeling oddly because of worry over the attack on Jennabard.

Thantor sighed. Jennabard's heart might sing, he thought, but it was currently between sets. Still, Vivien had a point and he appreciated her attempt bring cohesion to the group. Of all the members of their troupe, she was the most Earth-based and he wondered if she appreciated the importance of her contribution, especially with all the Fire and Wood types running around. He still wasn't sure why Georgi had suddenly charged off in the brush. Was she scouting ... or had she been compromised?

"You are right, Vivien," he said after a time. "It's just that jennabard is in a great deal of pain and I am worried about her. My outburst was inappropriate and I will apologize to Georgi when she returns. I don't believe we will be attacked again for a time. Whatever that force was, it could have killed jennabard if it had wanted to. It seems to want to toy with us for some reason. Let's do as Georgi asked. We can establish a parameter around jennabard's position and ... eh ..." While he was talking, Thantor became aware of the subtle changes in the energy between Gwalchmai and Vivien. Amazing, he thought with a sense of wonder. "Um ... I'll just go sit by jennabard ... in case she needs anything." He pulled a small blanket from his pack and covered jennabard, sitting down next to her. He then closed his eyes and performed a potent defensive ki maneuver, the Web of Wyrd. If that *&$@ing thing returns, he thought grimly, it will have to go through me first.

Georgi slowed. She heard voices, but was only half-concentrating on the task at hand. As she crept towards the clearing the noise was coming from, angry thoughts ran through her mind. Who was this stranger to criticize her... when he didn't even know who they were! She wasn't the leader, and she couldn't tell Jennabard what to do... as JB had demonstrated. Why was this being blamed on her?? It was obvious the stranger knew something about JB's condition as well, but he had said nothing... and his gaze made Georgi very uncomfortable...

She was distracted from her thoughts by movement in the clearing ahead. Seeing a hobgoblin building a fire, she thought for a moment that this was what all the killing had been about... until she heard a too-familiar voice ring out. It was Anomen, after all. She closed her eyes, not wanting to believe it.

Suddenly a searing pain stabbed through her mind, and it was all she could do to keep herself from crying out. To her surprise, a yell came from the glade. "What's the matter, human?" asked the hobgoblin.

"Just a headache," Anomen replied. Coming into view, he looked straight at Georgi; or through her, rather. He turned back. "Nothing will interfere with the plans. The Black Rose will pay for the trouble they have caused me. Besides, one acquires a taste for cold-blooded killing, after a while."

Georgi could listen to this no more. This wasn't the Anomen she knew. Heavy-hearted, she headed back towards the camp, wiping away the solitary tear that escaped the corner of her eye. How was she going to explain this to the others?

Vivien felt reassured by Thantor’s words, especially as he really seemed as if he might help them. She wanted to be able to trust him, but common sense would say ‘not yet’.
Not that I ever listen to my common sense anyway.

She then cast true sight, to see if that might help the situation, and moving closer to Jennabard began to scan the forest around them.

Loner awoke in Kramor's arms. He was already awake, and smiled when she looked up at him.

They set out, slowly and cautiously finding a way through the wood.

Georgi strolled into the camp, and her invisibility spell wore off. "It's nice to know anyone could walk right in here like that," she muttered.

"Oh, I wouldn't say that."

Georgi whirled around to face Thantor, twin maces in his hands and a determined look on his face. He put the weapons away but noted that there was a lingering energy signature within Georgi's ki field. He filed that information away for future reference.

"I think we got off to a poor start. I shouldn't have snapped at you like I did early and I apologize. It's just that jennabard is in a great deal of pain, and I felt rather helpless ..." Georgi gave no ground and stood there as closed as a metal box. "You don't trust me, do you? Well, one of us needs to take the first step, so I'll start. Please," he said, motioning to the ground near jennabard. They sat down on the ground, Georgi keeping her distance. Vivien and Gwalchmai joined them. "Ordinarily, since jennabard has not elected to take you into her confidence, I would respect her wish for privacy. However, the way events are unfolding, I think I should at least give you some idea of my observations. When I was doing my clerical training, I worked for a time at an asylum. There are no potions, no magic cures for the poor souls who end up there. It was here that I began to become disillusioned with magic, but that is another for another time." He paused and, picking up a stick, drew two circles on the ground, one inside the other.

with everyone's attention on thantor and his converation, jennabard sat up right, and looked around her frantically. thantor sat next to her, watching her. his eyes narrowed as he sensed that the shadow has taken over for now. jennabard growled and threw the blanket away from her and immediatly distanced herself from him. she stopped in the middle of the camp, vivien came forward with a look of worry," jenna, are you alright?" she tried to lay a reassuring hand on her arm, but jenna moved away from her and hissed.
"stay away from me, all of you. if you know whats good for you, you'll leave now and never look back." she kept looking around as if she was watching for another attack. "i need to leave...run...must hide...mustn't let HIM find me."

"Jennabard," Thantor said softly, not moving. "It's alright, jenna." As he spoke, he drew upon the life energies of her friends, knowing that the intimacy she shared with them was his only hope of calming her. For a moment, he was afraid she would break and run. But this past and her fear seemed to diminish, though she was still very skittish. "Look at me, jennabard." She ignored him at first, but eventually looked at him. "You're safe here," he said with calm and authority. He allowed the energy of her friends to move directly through him into her eyes. She held his eyes, perhaps sensing a familiar and comforting sensation. "No one is going to hurt you. All your friends are here. No matter what happens, we are all here with you. Let's face this together." Slowly, she was able to compose herself.

Loner and Kramor progressed through the wood without incident, surprisingly enough. Soon they came upon a small campsite, and Loner recognized Vivien. "We've found them," she said to Kramor, and they approached the group...

Then Loner stopped short, and nearly fell over. Her breath was caught, and her face went white. Kramor realized something was going on and placed a hand on her shoulder. She was staring at a stranger in the group...

Loner finally let out a gasp, and collected herself just enough to make a formal bow, and choke out the word "Master!"

OOC: Hi Loner. Great entrance!

"Loner!" Thantor exclaimed in delighted recognition. He quickly strode over to her, lifted her into an upright postion, and gave her a great bear hug. "Such formality is unnecessary. By the look of you, I would say there are few who could master you. It is good to see you, Loner. I was very worried about you." Loner quickly introduced Thantor to KramoR. Having had the privilege of fighting beside many a paladin, Thantor recogized the characteristic ki signature. KramoR had a strong and measured way about him, and Thantor instantly liked the man. "A pleasure to meet you, Sir KramoR."
