@Thorin, I'm there, under the pseudonym "Gruntboy" :D

Re Genocide. It is very possible to wipe out opposing civs. Indeed, military victory requires that you do this. There is an option, that can be turned off, to re-spawn early in the game. However, whiners fail to realise that the AI does things to ensure its survival (without "cheating"). It builds cities in out of the way, desolate places. It maintains settlers for rapid escape, often kept at sea in ships (a civ is not destroyed if it has a settler left and no cities)! You can capture those cities and workers or destroy the cities to truly commit heinous crimes.

Without destroying a civ entirely you run the risk of foreign nationals rebelling - unless you can re-educate them in the ways of your culture. :D

I just joined the Civ Genocidal Maniacs Club today when my Romans overran Athens and eradicated the Greeks (my advisors even told me that they no longer existed). My dilema is this: Do I have to worry about the remaining greek citizens staging a rebellion during times of unhappiness and returning the Greek civ to the game? Or once their face is taken off of the diplomacy screen, are they gone?

I got half a dozen greek workers when Athens fell and I am also trying to decide if I want to have them join my cities, keep them around (and pay unit support on them), or disband them for shields.

The only time another civs citezens have rioted on me was when I was at war with their country. I have never had a problem after I have wiped out a Civ. not saying it won't happen, but I am a bloodthirsty warmonger, and it hasn't happened yet.

I have recently been playing Call To Power 2 multiplayer, how does Civ3 differ from Call To Power, is it that much of an improvment?

oddly enough i'm not as happy w/ civ3 as i thought i would be.

having played the heck out of civ, civ2, call to power and alpha centauri perhaps i was expecting too much.

it's a very good game, yet somehow seems less fun to play than civ 1&2 and alpha.

i find the movies (or lack of same) very disapointing.

HighLordDave. No, once a civ is destroyed, that's it. Population will have no chance of rebellion (which is why its a good idea to destroy a civ once you start fighting them) and foreign workers COST NOTHING to support (but they work more slowly).

Mr Sleep, I never played call to power so I can't comment. There are mixed feelings over Civ3 - a lot of the negatives lack credence because critics can't get to grips with the combat/strategy.

No multiplayer on Civ3 either - its supposed to come in a modpack

I've been reading through your posts and followed to the 'Civ Fanatics' site, but it seems that when you build your own worlds (my second favorite thing to do with Civ!) you cannot specify where Civs are placed, which seems odd as that's how one would build a scenario. That's my main gripe with Civ III as of now. ;)

I hope they are expanding that in the expansion. :)

Yes, that's what I meant. (Yes, Viv can type and make sense...) ;)

I like to put my city on it's own little island because I hate it when other Civ's try to build their city's too close... But that's just me :)

I now have to load my maps about ten times before my Civ gets the right spot. ;)

Why build? Build a few, make contact with a close civ, trade to get world map, produce Legionarys and knights by the multitudes, take other civs cities, pre-built, and maybe even a wonder or two. :D

remember, they have no right to build upon lands you covet merely because of the fact that you didn't know what resources where there when they built. :D

That sounds fun except for the fact that I'm a pacifist ;)

My people expand with the mating capabilities of bunny rabbits in the early stages of the game so that I have a good base (My minimum is 12 cities for a good base, ships help this) :) . Then I put all into building up my cities for good culture, money and science and sit back watching the cute firework displays and laughing as the other cultures try to match my scientific superiority :)
I feel guilty when I take cities, like I'm 'mean' or something *shrug* (Yes, I'd get my @ss kicked if Civ III allowed multiplayer :)

Don't feel bad. Just think of it like this, you are liberating the citezens for there own good. They get to become part of YOUR nation. What more can anyone ask for?

Wow this really sucks for me.
I decided to kill of the Greeks and have taken every city except their last capital on an island with just one space!
THat means i can't take the city until i can make marines to land in there after destroying it with battleships.
So far i've waited 1500 years.
I am only in Industrial age. Anyway since playing the Germans, i'll create panzers and take out everybody else.

Can't believe some of my opponents still have spearmen and warriors and i have infantry.

Yes, but usually they place them in silly spots! One must 'raze' the city, isn't that killing them all? :)

No that is taking all the citizen and making workers out of them and then burning down the buildings/city.
