Hi everyone, the unofficial patch 4.8 will be out this afternoon as usual at The Patches Scrolls ((The Patches Scrolls) Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines Downloads) in both complete and incremental installer versions.
I know it has just been a week since my last release but because I accidentally introduced a side-quest breaking bug in 4.7, I thought it would best to fix this as soon as possible. For anybody already in the middle of 4.7 here comes a quick fix for the above problem: If you get stuck when talking to Boris, open the console and type "frenzyplayer". After a short frenzy you should be able to move again. My apologies for introducing this bug, but these things can happen with the number of fixes and changes that are still going on.
Speaking of changes, 4.8 includes some more never seen unused models I found in the files! The vacuum tubes replace the generic CD you have to get for Gary, the pull toy has to be found for a new quest of Gary which will give you an unspoiled Tawni Sessions poster as reward, and the fragmentation grenade prop will be usable as an Intimidation powerup, like Nines did. The later two are of course gameplay related and thus plus version only, while the first one will also be in the basic patch. Here is the complete change log:
v4.8 22.02.2008
----
+Recovered grenade as Intimidation powerup and fixed netcafe laptop.
+Created new Gary quest to swap pull toy prop with poster of Tawni.
+Added humanity points for granting money to haven bum and Mercurio.
+Made killing pier cops loose humanity and gave one the baton only.
+Changed Pearl of Dubai powerup to Charisma so Nosferatu can use it.
+Swapped Gary's quest order and his CD for a box with vacuum tubes.
Made Isaac give his gift earlier and SWAT cops use Steyr Augs only.
+Exchanged knowledge requirements of high computer and dodge books.
Fixed side quest breaking bug at Empire Hotel after speaking Boris.
Made Carson pack his laptop and fixed bad loading tip word choice.
Fixed Imalia still being pissed off when you sold her the magazine.
+Added overlooked humanity loss when killing Phil at the SM clinic.
Corrected bad Ming Xiao, Tzimisce fatguy and Ra blade damage stats.
Restored sound to Bach's grenades and fixed minor dialogue issues.
Delayed reaction to changes of Heather's state in medical computer.
Updated netcafe entry for Tawni Sessions dependent of quest state.
Placed serial killer card more reasonable and restored more sounds.
Prevented continueing the Tawni quest after you have been noticed.
Added gestures to a Jack tutorial line and fixed stealth kill icon.
Fixed Ming dropping out of dialogue and a possible Gary phone bug.
Unofficial Bloodlines Patch 4.8 ready for release!
I just installed the 4.8 patch (full). When first starting a new game, I'm at the point talking to Knox. When he knows I'm a vampire, he introduces himself. There are 2 options for me to choose. Basically number 1 is keep talking and number two is get lost. I choose number 1 and immediately get bounced back to desktop. I tried it again and the same thing happened.
So what now?
So what now?
I just tried a 3rd time and same thing happens when choosing number 1 (immediate bounce to desktop).
The two options are this:
1.
I went and tried it yet again and this time chose number 2. No bounce to desktop on that one. I didn't want to choose that one cause I was afraid it would stop the dialog and nix the stuff I would do later for him. Luckily he then said something like me being an a$$hole and I got a chance to apologize to keep the dialog going. (I hope it doesn't affect the dialog options when I meet up with him again at the Asylum club.)
Something is not right though on that choosing number 1. It's never happened before on the countless times I've played this game.

2.Are you a vampire? How do you know all of this?
The pleasure's all yours. Leave me alone jackass.

I have listened to a few Vampire sound files with WMP in the past. I do that with games ocassionally cause sometimes I like to save them or make a ringtone out of them.
So if it turns out to be a corrupted sound file, how would I fix that? If this turns out to be the case, I hope you (or anyone) can/will help me fix it though it wouldn't be patch related. Hopefully I'm not stuck with it (or have to re-install the game).
This is a real bummer if playing a sound file independently of the game can cause that sound file to no longer work in the game.
I do also have the game installed on my daughter's computer so I would have access to a particular sound file if it needed to be replaced (if I can remember where the hell it is in the game and how to do it).

More info.
I compared the Knox files (in Vampire\sound\character\dlg\santa monica\knox folder) with the ones on my daughter's computer. I found that the file "line111_col_e.mpg" was not the same size. Her's was 90.1kb and mine was something like 94.3kb (mine would play in WMP). I copied her's over to mine, tried the game again and this time the number 1 answer did not kick to desktop and I could resume the dialog.
So enlighten me here (as I haven't a clue). Why the small variation is size, and why did it make such a drastic difference (one worked and one kicked to desktop) and why did both files play in WMP independent of game?

As far as I know the WMP appends some DRM or playlist infos to any file it plays unless you turn it off, and Bloodlines can't handle this. Just use a better mediaplayer like e.g. the open source Mediaplayer Classic insteadMike89 wrote: So enlighten me here (as I haven't a clue). Never mind. It was the audio files again. I compared my daughter's "Larry" folder with mine and it was 1kb off. One f-ing kb! I copied her's over to mine and the problem was fixed. I think I'm going to copy all of her dlg files and put it somewhere in case I have this problem again down the line. Jeez!

Don't know if this has been reported yet, but in all basic versions of the patch I played (4.5 to 4.8) the info screen while loading new areas causes problems. It works properly until you enter the beach house-area in Santa Monica. When you do, only "Combat Area:" is displayed but not the explaining text. After that you will always get the the first WoD-text ("The World of Darkness is a place where...") while changing areas. This does not happen with the plus patch.
The solution to your problem is in THIS THREAD.Ascendency-Down wrote:Don't know if this has been reported yet, but in all basic versions of the patch I played (4.5 to 4.8) the info screen while loading new areas causes problems.
