Keeping stolen armor?

Post by Bob Dole176 »

Spoiler, please hilight:
Spoiler
I went to ghostgate and at the tower of dusk there was a shop where there was a dunmer who had full glass armor including a sheild and helmet and extra pair of boots and a chestpiece, a glass longsword and a glass jinksword. I stole all of it (I couldn't resist ;) ) and got out of there without any bounty on my head, fortunately. My character uses light armor and I enchanted the glass longsword so it traps souls, but whenever I get a fine, and pay it off, the guards take it all away! Even though I wasn't caught stealing it they still take it away. I heard that the guards keep everything in 'Evidence Chests' that they take away from you, but I can't find it. Even if I did, it's probably out in the open somewhere so everyone would see me pick the lock. I reloaded the game so I still have everything, but I don't know what to do. I can't download mods or anything because I have it for Xbox. Does anyone know what I can do?

Before paying fines to the guards, drop everything in your inventory that you did not buy or collect from plants etc. The game treats everything else as stolen, whether you were seen stealing it or not. Its one of the less well implemented parts of the game. Once you have paid the fine, simply pick up your gear again :)

I've tried that, but they STILL don't let me keep anything. I even tried putting it all in a chest and doing the same thing, but they just hate me or something!
Thanks for replying, though.

you don't always have to pay the fine to the guards, you could just pay half price to get the bounty off at the thieves guild and you don't lose any items.

heres some advice. there is a point eventually where the game stops thinking of stolen items as 'stolen', or at least thats how my game is. after that the gaurds dont care about that item. y dont u try waiting a really long time before u pay a bounty? that how it works on my xbox, at least. and yea that sounds wierd how even though u drop ur stuff, the gaurds take it anyway. i dont know wat to do about that...

When you drop stolen items, get a fine then pick them after you pay it, are the guards watching when they see you do this?

I've never had a problem with picking up whatever I dropped after I paid the fine. Of course the items will still be marked as stolen so if you get another price on your head and get stopped by the guards they will still confiscate them then as stolen property. But I've never been stopped for just picking them back up where I dropped them.

Get your hands on 9 or so grand sould gems and fit the armour with enchantments and rename them. They don't get taken off you then. Or use the thieves guild.
