Need help with Greater Wolfwere

Post by medictech »

I am having problems defeating a GreaterWolfwere in Windspear Hills he seems to heal quicker than I can do damage. I have tried many direct damage spells and have maxed summoned monsters repeatdly with no effect. Any good spoilers or any clue what my problem is?

Haste everyone, give strength enhancement (postion, belts etc) if necessary, and bash them. Don't even think about using missile weapons. Brutal force is the best way there. ;)

Oh, and don't spread your party. You should concentrate on one at the time, even if you are facing a group.

greater malasion + a few bolts of biting.
The poison dmg should offset the heal factor then you just bash him normally. Or just send Korgan in dual wield'n belm(off hand) and any nifty axe you have with str belt/potion and improved haste. Greater Whirlwind? who needs it. The can of whoop ass he opens should be more than enough to take care of that stupid regen and then some.
Quick and dirty way would be to send in tanks with lots of AC and cloudkill the whole lot. Should be able to kill em before the tanks take too much dmg from melee and cloudkill.
Or just play fighter/mage/thief or thief/mage and use mislead outa their LOS and go nuts with the backstabs (cheese and borderline exploit i know.. but its so damn fun)

Enhanced abilities including Greater Whirlwind aren't available in BG2 until you get to TOB.

I've got the same problem. When I first went through the game I made a paladin and just brought a lot of beef with me. This time I'm using a druid I played in BG1 and only one fighter, and can't do damage fast enough to get the wolfweres down, but there are a lot of ways to take bastids out, it's just a matter of finding one that works with the group you have. (fyi-HaerDalis sword that reduces DEX won't do it)

With a little timing you can lure them one by one into the room in the north (iirc), then simply shut the door, kill the critter, heal up, lure the next one into the room.

lol I did this myself just about an hour ago. FINALLY got BG2 working on my new computer after it kept on randomly restarting. Turned out to be a conflict with my audio software :( But after going for 6 months I'm finally able to play again! Going to solo my F/M/T all the way thru SOA and TOB.

I had a bit of a problem with them as well, but eventually was able to kill them all without using a whirl wind, but using that skill makes it so much easier  They don't really have a large amount of hitpoints, it's just that they heal so damn fast. If you can hit them as hard and fast as possible they're not really all that difficult.......... especially if you do the suggested tactic above and lure them out one by one.

Nobody usually considers audio problems when games fail; they look to video issues. And with good reason, but audio shouldn't be neglected. I had a nasty time being unable to play SMAC for several weeks, until I realized Total Recorder demanded input/output settings that completely conflicted with SMAC requirements. Nor did the game point out where the error possibly was in its readme notes. I finally realized that SMAC was simply looking to the location for sound and killing its processes instead of running silently.

Thanks for the timely reminder to all. :)

This guy isn't a problem if you do the windspear quest early. If you have a lower level party you just meet a couple of regular wolfweres. Another example of the value of not procrastinating (especially when those dryads asked so nicely...)

There is a bug associated with the Greater Wolfweres - their regeneration effect is defined incorrectly, so that every time you rel-load an area with a Greater Wolfwere, his regeneration increases. The FixPack here contains a fix for this.
There's nothing a little poison couldn't cure...

What happened here was the gradual habituation of the people, ... to receiving decisions deliberated in secret; to believing that the situation was so complicated that the government had to act on information which the people could not understand, or so dangerous that, even if he people could understand it, it could not be released because of national security.

Your telling me Fable............. I tried everything I could think of with the graphics options - changed detinator drivers, turned off all bells and whistles for the game, tried just about every feature in both on and off but to no avail :( I checked the Bioware site/forum to see if they could help. Did a few forum searches and there was a couple of other ppl that had the same problem as me, but no one could work out why it was happening. I just assumed that it was some problem with either XP or my new videocard not working too well with the older programming of BG2. But I went back to the Bioware forums again a few days ago and saw the sticky thread up the top :D A good thing to check for anyone who's upgraded to a new system.

medictech did you end up getting past the nasty dogs? :P I finished the Windspear hills today.
