It was price and userreviews.
It had a very favoruable price when I bought it for 10-20% less then other similar motherboards.
And the reviews it had gotten was very good for the most part.
And so far there is only 2 things that annoy me, and both are minor.
It has an onboard sound card (SB 16 I think) - wich I have disabled in BIOS, but still - it takes up space

Second the CPU-cooler is extreemly hard to get on and off, due to the fact that some condensors (sp?) are located close to the tap you use to pry the cooler from the socket

Other then this I have had no problems whatsoever with my Soltek MB.

When I upgrade I dunno if I will buy Soltek again, the price and userreviews both factor into whether or not I purchase a component

@Kameleon: Yeah

My typing speed at home has increased with about 15% and now I don't even look at the keyboard when typing, not even when I program in Java with all the small and high-case letters

It is a problem when I use computers at school, cause they are the ordinary boring keybords and not these ergonomic(sp?) ones

- slow and errorfilled typing

(Three burners currently not installed, damn things dont wanna work)
A couple extra Hard drives laying around, not sure if they were from my pent 3 450 machine or not. Buncha extra floppie drives, a zip drive I never used.
No printer, old beaten paperweight of a Microtek scanner though.

To be honest this may not be current. I change out my machine daily, i got like two boards sitting in my room I just need some more towers. Its fun being a Comp. administrator I get cheap crap for free (like the five pent 2 proccessors and boards I got). I wanna create like a MUD server or something hehe anyhow Im out.

Same situation for me even about the condensors, in fact the chip sits in a fairly awkward space regardless. I had some minor configuration problems that caused a few hic ups but generally it has been very reliable.

I have had a very good experience with my new MSI board; no compatibilty issues, it was very easy to install and best of all, there were no jumpers or DIP switches to configure, everything is done through the BIOS.

MSI KT3 Ultra motherboard: $80 (~$110 for the one with onboard RAID)
AMD Athlon XP 1800+: $71 OEM, $80 retail (~$150 for OEM XP 2200+)
256 MB PC2700 DDR RAM: $80 at Crucial.com (free shipping)

You should be able to gut your old machine for the rest of the components (sound card, video card, network card, FDDs, HDDs, ODDs, etc.).

So taking into account of my impending new prescription and new frames for my lenses then this will of course just be a nominal cost

My, my, I didn't know there are so many salesmen in the SYM...

My next upgrade will be Sound card and bigger harddrive. I'll go shopping when I go home next time, to avoid UK's 17.5% VAT.

If I have a bit spare money (highly unlikely), I'll upgrade my CPU. Or, maybe the video card. Mmmm, should I add more memory instead...
