Yes, it has some negative effects. First, your reputation will drop by 2 point each time you use it. Second, if you don't change back, you'll start losing control of your actions and slowly turn into Baal reincarnated (and die in the process). However, you'll get some magic resistance and some of your stats (e.g. Strength) will go up for the time being.

I think that this ablity is a big old waste of time. I find near the end our charcter is stronger then the slayer. But I guess it is there to advance the plot. I maybe used it once or twice. Just for something different to do.

The only time you MIGHT actually use it is in the Underdark.

if you're playing evil...use it whenevr you want, but it will only be really useful if you're having trouble killing Liches or DemiLiches. If you're playing good however, the Slayer is a big nono ;)

Spoiler:

To open certain doors that for some obscure reasons can't be opened with otherwise gained STR 25.

Besides that the Slayer change is a great gift to those who play moderately evil parties and are looking for ways to lower their rep without killing the next innocent person that crosses their path.

and this is nice why? cause you get to keep the only worth while charm spell in the game, mind control circlets!!! touch type dire charm, with long duration will charm almost anything in the game. for example, will cahrm kangaxx...

in mind flayer dungeon, two of the doors can be opend by using a mind control circlet on a flayer and having it touch the door will cause the door to open. but save your circlets, and if youre playing goody goody....ick...you can use simmy or image to use without turning slayer and taking rep loss.

rep loss is very useful, especially if you have 75%goody goody and the biggest problem with evil parties is no good thieves!!! drives me nuts...and since while it would be a riot to play a evil party, need thief skilled char to proceed, and immie always squeels when we try the "hmm, sooner or later, even with rep 0, they should run out of enforcers and knights, right?" experiement.....

really enjoying my new game, got a significant party change, finally taking edwin in party!!! ok, I play sorc kensai, so magic is really covered well, but edwin should be funny and interesting, and I can use him as a single purpose battle mage, loaded up ONLY with attack and kill, kill, kill, loot the bodies type of spells, and using every 9th level slot for chain contingency, and 5th level slot for contingency, use the eveil five spells per round trick to hammer wht enemy first few rounds....
They call me Darth...

Darth Gizka!

Are you implying that the circlets work outside the mindflayer dungeon??? The possibilities arising from that would be ... endless.

Considering evil thieves, don't dream it, be it. :D

The only way to run a proper all evil party is to have a thief (mc/dc) class for your PC. Backstabbing with Blackrazor while wearing human flesh is the real thing, believe me.

circlets

Wow! If these circlets worked outside the mindflayer dungeon they would simply rock. Has anyone tried this out yet?
I wonder why I didnt get this idea myself, but be it.
Anyone (maybe sojourner or fable) can justify this?
