What's your gaming rig?

Hi guys.

It's been quite awhile since ive been haunting the gamebanshee forums. And being a gaming community, i find it somewhat odd that we have never (or close to never

) discussed the capabilities of our gaming rigs. So ive decided to start this thread where we can admire, or gape in awe at our fellow member's rigs (Try to keep the green eyed monster at bay

). Please do contribute... im eager to see how many of us are running comps on steroids i.e. with souped up specs. Then we can let the "oooh, aaaah"-ing begin.

To try and make this work, here are a couple of guidelines I'd like adhered to.

1) Rig type?

Desktop/Laptop/Both.

2) Processor?

List model and specifications such as : Core 2 Quad Q9000 (2.0Ghz, 6mb L2 cache, 1066 FSB)

3) Graphics card?

Also list model and specs. Ex : ATI Radeon HD 4850, 512mb DDR3 VRam.

4) RAM? Hard drive?

Ex : 4gb dual channel ddr2 RAM. 320gb 7200 RPM hard drive.

5) Benchmarks?

Anything you think can appropriately represent your system. I.e. 3dmark06 score or Crysis benchmark Frames Per Second value.

Any additional info is also welcome. Just keep it clean

So, discuss away!!

Also, feel free to point out anything that i have missed from the guidelines above.

Alright, let me get this started.

1) Laptop

2) Core 2 Duo T5600 (1.83Ghz, 2mb L2 cache, 667 FSB)

3) Mobility Radeon x1400 256mb ddr2 Vram

4) 1gb dual channel ddr2 ram (2 x 512mb sticks). 80gb 5400 rpm hard drive which is starting to fail

5) 3dmark06 score on default resolution : 1026

Its pretty dismal for a gaming rig lol. But ever since my old acer desktop was sent to Davy Jones locker loooong ago, it has been a loyal servant. Besides, it can even run newer titles such as Fallout 3, albeit on low settings (Mass Effect just REFUSED to run)

Hey, my original was an "Acer" system too. It's dead as well.

1: Desktop, PC compatible.

2: "Windows Vista TM Home Premium" & Service Pack 1.

3: Rating: 3.5 Windows Experience Index: Unrated.

4: Processor: Ahh, heck, just see the attachment!

5: Monitor: See the other attachment! It's an "Olevia", by the way. 27 inches if I just read the tape measure correctly.

6: Uh, if I think of any thing else, or you ask for specifics that I can give an answer to, or am willing to answer, I'll add more!

Oh well, i spose i still have old classic titles to fall back on till then. Now, where did i keep that Diablo II cd?

Intel Pentium 4 3.5 GHz (Hyper Threaded)

3) Graphics card?

Nvidia 8500 800 MHz 512mb (Primary)
Nvidia 5500 350 MHz 128mb (Secondary)

4) RAM? Hard drive?

2gb Corsair 800 MHz and a 140gb hard-drive (not SATA, the one that's not as good)

5) Benchmarks?

It runs Microsoft Paint quite smoothly

I'd like to get a laptop so I can move around the house while working (at the moment I'm stuck in my attic with no company and poor TV.) It'd also be quite good for school and my A levels next year.

What I've got now is okay. Gonna upgrade to a quad core processor (Is Intel or AMD better?), a Nvidia 8800 (though I might get a better power supply and a 9800) and a big hard-drive for all my music and to rip my DVDs onto. (Which is legal)
Though working in a fish and chip shop that might all be a long way away.

Mainboard - Mainboard ASUS P5K-Deluxe/WiFi-AP S775 P35 Chipset
3.5 Gs RAM, can't recall the make, Corsair perhaps?

5) Benchmarks?
Runs The Witcher, Lord of the Rings Online and a heavily modded Oblivion beautifully at maximum settings.

It's about 1.5 years old, and probably obsolete by absolute techie standards, but this thing rocks!

Btw do you mean 2 ati hd4870x2 cards (for a total of 4gb)? Or just a single hd 4870x2 (wif 2gb vram)? Ur listing kinda confused me...

Perhaps... I'll see what windows 7 is like and take it from there.. Of course, MS will probably stop supporting XP at that point, but I refuse to be pushed into a new OS just because Microjunk tells me to go out and buy one.. We'll see, I may end up getting a second hard drive; one would have XP, and the other would run 7.

It's two ATI Radeon HD4870 cards hooked up together. Both have 2 gigs of Vram.

Nah, I just update my computer once every 7 years to state of the art (or close enough to it). I doubt I'll need any new hardware for another 10 years or so.

Benchmarks: The Witcher ran flawlessly at default settings and 1024 X 768, but buying the giant monitor was my downfall - at 1920 X 1200, even Titan Quest lags sometimes.

@Flix, just so you know, Titan Quest will sometimes lag on any setting or system. There's a rather large programming error in it that causes it, no one's been able to pinpoint it enough to fix it without redesigning the entire game engine itself.

I had one too. A 486 processor before I switched to the Pentium 2. Had a load of problems with it, especially when playing games which have mouse support. Mouse jammed at the edge of the screen after an hour of playing and audio problems are abundant in quite a number of games. Threw it right into the dustbin after the switch and I don't miss it one bit. Despised Acer ever since after that ordeal, though.

Mines getting a bit old now, it's an E6600 with 4GB RAM, GeForce 8800GTS w. 768 MB RAM, and a X-fi sound card and various other stuff.

Am thinking of buying another within the next 6 months or so when Windows 7 comes out (I've always been on board with the new windows versions

) - have my eyes on a nifty high end one but it does cost a bit, but been a long time since I've spoiled myself.

Lol, join the Acer hater club. My old comp kept giving me various probs. Dunno if it was worth the effort i put in to keep it going as long as it did. In the end, can't say that i was too sad to see it go. And thx for the welcome.

Btw, it also seems that i'm the only fella silly enuff to do gaming on a laptop lol. Too bad my constant traveling prohibits the option of having a desktop... But cmon, surely there are some here like me. *Sits in the corner and waits*

I made the screenshots so I wouldn't have to write the techincal jargon. When I switched from "Data Processing" to "Graphic Arts", decades ago it seems, without the everyday practice of using the terms, I've tended to not think about them. Since I didn't ever get employed as an artist of any kind, the lexicon for that is fading away too.

I have lots of games I haven't even played yet and probably some I don't remember having bought, stashed away some where.

My current computer was a Christmas gift and that's why it has "Vista" on it.

However my younger brother's job gives him access to beta versions of software, so he's already using the next version of "Windows", that you called "Windows 7" I think. It looked nice enough from what I saw of it. He and the others like him, where he works, I guess are asked to rate the beta stuff and send their input to whomever makes it. A few times I've also used the beta versions, but I didn't have to rate them.

Okay, now Dragon Wench, this is for her/you! Please don't jinx or place a curse on my computer, thank you very much! It doesn't need to go to Hell!

EDIT: As I've stated elsewhere, my old "Acer" monitor wasn't recycled. I used it for target practice instead. If I ever find the pictures I'll share, so that you can see what a shot up monitor and a shot-up TV set look like. I didn't take pictures of the shot up clothes washer and other old appliances though.

A friend of mine studying in Australia also games on his laptop, though it's more of the simplistic free online games (and the occasional flash game here and there).

I ran 3DMark a while ago, can't remember the score. Can run The Witcher, Sins of a Solar Empire, and Unreal 3 all at highest settings with no slow down.

Using XP Pro, since Vista is something I'm not willing to bother dealing with.

I'm using a 22 inch LG monitor at 1650x1050.
