Does increasing certain skills help anything at all? like athletics, you get swimming and tumbling from it....but does increasing it past 4th level...

within the game it doesn't tell you, but if you increase athletics upto 5 that will cause your character to side-step and walk backwards a little...

Dont worry about the alliance, its not gonna happen even when you finish the game. Do the errand. You have to put the vial in the altar in the vale....
