Okay, so my fighter who has 20 dex and 16 str and has the weapon specialization in longbow just equipped a longbow w/ no magic effects.

..it seems that regardless of what bow you choose (if it has mighty or compound or *nothing*) - you will get your strength modifier (damage bonus).
