The problem is now fixed.
I installed the SI patch easily, & no game uninstall was required.

Accidental double post.

Thanks Lemmus & Galraen, I tried installing the English/Australian Oblivion v1.2 patch, but I got a patch warning:
"old file not found, however, a file of the same name was found, no update done since file contents do not match."
So the patch wasnt installed.
I tried the North American Oblivion v1 ...

err, Lemmus, sorry to persist, but I went to Bethesda, the link in your post.
I went to support, downloads, but found nothing.
This:
"Downloads
OBLIVION : WINDOWS 7
No downloads found for the current game and platform selection. "

I did a search for patch, but found nothing.

I am running unpatched version with Shivering Isles add on.
Game was running fine, but then any items I created in-game, from Alchemy spells to enchanted weapons/armor at the enchanting Chromosium, they all just disappear aat my next log-in.
Can anyone advise me on how to solve this problem please ...
