I'm having a bit of trouble making this one work; it doesn't transport my character anywhere. I'm probably just being dense, but can anybody help?

Just restore your system configurations to the last snapshot taken before you ever installed BG II (assuming you have a recent snapshot available and won't be erasing something important you've done in the meantime).
