I think it also has to do with your skill in that type of armour. If you really suck at heavy armor it's not going to give much of an advantage, etc.

I also had the same problem, but getting the detonator XP drivers off of Nvidia's website fixed it for me. (I'm running a GeForce 2 GTS, by the way.)

Actually, I guess it turned out to be my video drivers after all. I reloaded the detonator XP drivers fresh from nVidia's website and that solved everything. It just really threw me when it would let me load the game and play it just a little before crashing at the same spot every ...
