Personally my solo fighter mage uses the Rod of Smiting against Iron and Adamantium Golems and Crom Faeyr against all the rest. make pretty short work of 'em that way.

Also use the Rod of Smiting against the brain golems in the underdark.

Have you possibly been blinded, certain spells (notably holy smite) have a problem whereby the blindness caused by them was permanent.

Most uses of the cloudkill spell are indeed very cheesey, especially when combined with invisibility for the casting mage. The reason that it is so cheesy is that enemy AI is so poor that the monsters just stand around in a cloud of choaking nastyness until they are dead, any good PnP DM would never ...

Generally speaking I play the game on Core rules, mainly because I don't like the fact that on normal you get max HP/Level and that you automatically learn all spells.

However at the moment I am soloing through on insane lvl just so I can say I've done it.

Playing a monk at level 1 is like playing a lvl 1 mage who has run out of spells, it sucks big style.
