I'm not sure if you are correcting yourself or what but the best way to get this done is by having physical shield at least up to level 2 and have your mana bar as large as possible so that you don't have to waste much while being attacked... run into the hobbes cave, then go into the Cave Larder ...

it definitely depends on your strategy but the very best are multi-strike and ghost sword... that's if you wish to be plain meele.. the other ones are more towards being a mage.

Have you already finished the game? the quest will not go away from the menu if you already have.. about the doll, i've always used slow time to finish in less than 10 secs.. that might help.
