I work as a computational linguist, creating a multi-lingual search engine. (pfew)

I believe the key belongs to a hidden door in the sewers in the Temple district.

I'm not sure about that...
when my character slept with Phaere, afterworths Jaheira asked him about it, when you answer her that you had no choice, she understands and even appreciates your honesty.
When I checked with the 'CluaConsole' there was no harm done.

I don't believe the bandits (who can appear in any outside place, I think (I met them in the druid grove)are necessary for the Harper plot. This encounter is important for the Jaheira Romance though !
So I guess you'll have to be patient and rest in the open...eventually they will show up, don't ...

I guess I'd be an elven druid.
As I wouldn't like cities that much...
and probably chaotic neutral...

just a note,

To finish the game no NPC is indispensable of course, still I have the feeling (personal opinion of course) that Jaheira has the most things to add to the way the main character goes.
But then again, maybe I'm too much prejudiced by reading the BGII novel. http://www.gamebanshee.com ...
