The Lord of the Rings Online: Minas Morgul Expansion Available

Amazon's upcoming The Lord of the Rings TV show will be taking place in the Second Age of Middle-earth, long before the events of the main trilogy. And if you're interested in a more close-up look at this time period, you should direct your attention to The Lord of the Rings Online's latest Minas Morgul expansion that you can now purchase from the official website. Here's the launch trailer for the expansion:

And a press release that explains how it will work:

Today marks the launch of the latest Minas Morgul Expansion for The Lord of the Rings Online, the iconic MMO from Standing Stone Games.

Players will go on an expedition into the Dead City, Minas Morgul, in search of answers to a mystery that spans three thousand years. The words of the shade of Isildur will unearth secrets and visions of the Second Age that have remained untold until now, revealing playable landscape and new adventures from a crucial time in Middle-earth’s history.

Players will infiltrate the city and visit other places of lingering evil in the region, such as the Houses of Lamentation. With the defeat of Sauron and destruction of the One Ring, the remnants of Mordor’s armies struggle in the power vacuum, and it will be up to players to help ensure that the last traces of evil are routed from Middle-earth.

Minas Morgul introduces a new storytelling element to LOTRO that differs from traditional Session Play or Cut scenes. In the “Mordor Besieged” region, with the help of Isildur’s shade, fans will be able to use their own character skills to participate in the visions of the Second Age. They will embody a hero of a similar class as theirs in the visions, allowing them to witness and participate in historic LOTRO events first-hand - all while enjoying the character type they love to play.

The Expansion includes the following features:
  • Level cap increase to 130
  • Two regions: “The Morgul Veil” and “Mordor Besieged”
  • Seven instances, including 3 and 6 person encounters
  • 12 person Raid against Shelob
  • Over 250 new quests
  • Updated crafting guilds with new perks
  • New playable race: Stout-axe Dwarves
  • Black Book of Mordor Storyline
  • Reveals details of battles from the Second Age
  • Bundles include exclusive titles, cosmetics, Mounts, and more
The Morgul Vale wouldn’t be complete without the chance to face off against one of its most notorious residents – in the raid, players will take on Shelob!

A new playable character option is also available with the Expansion: the Stout-axe dwarf, which will include more athletic body styles, updated animations, and different class options than the existing LOTRO Longbeard Dwarves. Stout-axes also have new facial options in character generation, such as different hair and beard styles. The Stout-axe dwarf is included with the purchase of any of the three bundle editions.
