Money

Post by edman »

I don't get it, I have such a hard time comming across gold. I'm a level 19 and I have yet to have anything above 1500 gold. In fact I ususally have between 500-1000 gold. Is there something I don't know about getting money because I always see items for sale that cost thousands of gold such as houses, horses, enchanted items etc?

i have no problem comign across gold and i am new to the game. get your sneak skill up... get down how to pick a lock

go into random houses and steal as much as possible.
sell the stuff to the theives guild guy

(if your not a member yet) steal something. go to jail. and a person will give you a message from a mysterious person
and all you do is folow the chain of quests till you get invited to the theives guild...i think stealing is the way to go :)

or you can join a faction and take all the loot in their houses hahaha

First off, loot EVERYTHING! :) When you check bodies or containers, the menu shows each item's price and weight. My rule of thumb is, if the price-to-weight ratio is 5-to-1 or better it's worth taking, but if you're really strapped for cash you can even sell those pigskin shoes and sackcloth pants. At level 19 you should be facing enemies with really nice (and expensive) gear. The price you actually get for any given item will vary depending on your mercantile skill and the disposition of the merchant you sell it to. Their disposition is based on your personality & speechcraft, so definitely play the speechcraft game or bribe them to get their disposition up before you haggle. At any rate, glass & elven swords alone are usually worth a few hundred GP a pop. You might have to try a couple of shops to find one that will buy potions & scrolls, but pretty much anybody will buy weapons & armor.

More pointers for easy money in this thread (warning - it contains many spoilers):

Can the answer to this question be "No"?

Don't worry about gold...

I'had a thread about "Gold has no use anymore".

Read the forum, you'll see that many players does no use for gold. I've bought only the houses and furnishings, and very little else as items. Loot are much better then items sold. LVL up a bit until 20-24 you'll see this.

All the above will net you money. But it is worth noticing the cash availabe to the merchant to buy your goods. s/he may have a limit of 600, for example, so will not pay you more than 600 even for an item that is worth thousands of gold.
Shop around. Check the price limits of merchants, and sell to one who has the most cash available for the goods you have to offer.

As someone else said, TAKE and sell ANYTHING that has a price value. You will often have to do many trips to collect your goodies into one place, then lots more trips to carry them to a city and sell them.

For example: Opposite the sewer exit you first emerge from, there is an ayleid ruin where you can pick up lots of loot. Down the first flight of steps there is a little curved passage with a barrel in it. This is a good place to store loot you collect as you progress through each area. Keep bringing back stuff to that barrel for as long as you can (you get to a point when you can't get back there any more but have by another way); you'll be glad you did eventually, even though it is a bit tedious.
On the way back to the barrel by the other way, you will get to a point where you have too much loot but need to jump down. Toss the loot down, then pick it up when you have jumped down yourself.
After you get back to that barrel collect stuff from it and take it outside in carryable loads to store in the chest near the door. When you have it all, take it in carryable loads to the Market District of the Imperial City and store it in one of the boxes/barrels that are lying around.
When you have all the goodies from the ruin back to the city, start selling.

I use this method all the time. Where there is no convenient chest, box or barrel, just dump the goodies close to the exit. They don't vanish.

As this has been discussed on several occasions and there is an answer for this already, I'd ask you, @edmanto perform a search on the forums before posting any questions. ;) Also, if you check out the many threads you'll find usefull information about merchants and exploits to gather money quicker and more efficiently. I'm closing this thread too.
