All these new mods ... rock my world [some spoilers??]

Post by Kaitsuburi »

Hi everyone --

After a break of about 3 months, I've started playing BGII again, and OMG -- all those WEIDU mods are rocking my world!!

Playing on CORE, I've got a berserker/mage (dualed at 13) and have picked up Tashia & Kelsey. Improved Illych wasn't too bad, but once I dualled my berserker things got pretty hard. Without a hitter and mages/sorc lvl 13 & below, Imp. TorGal was a nightmare. I decided to add another Ranger/Cleric multi PC for some frontline help and also to complete the spell arsenal. I'm planning on picking up Sola later on...

The random encounters at night (the 6 friendly fellows who appear out of nowhere) were giving me lots of trouble, especially in the beginning. I was forced to stay indoors at night until I gained enough levels. :( However, though, I guess they got higher in level or something as I levelled up as well, because I was able to fry most of them with a Death Spell, but no more. I found with those guys that hitting them as hard as you can really fast saves you a lot of trouble and nets you some nice superior healing potions. Without lvl 8 spells, fling a delay blast fireball, hit the druid with some flame arrows to finish her as soon as possible before she can cast insect plague and concentrate firepower on wizard slayer. That guy's a pain with arrows of dispelling. The conjuror mage likes to fling like 3 sequenced flame arrows and if it catches 60 hp sorcerors with dispelled prots, RIP. Once I got project image/abu-dalzim's/nature's beauty, it's become rather a pushover and I seriously went hunting for those guys several times. Exp not too bad, and I think I've got over 100,000 GP from selling their stuff, like 150 potions of superior healing and over 100 arrows of dispelling. Enough to get me through SoA at least, he he.

Kuroisan, the sketchy Japanese showed up last night in the docks as I was just came back directly after having finished Firkraag, battered with all protections worn off. Haste everyone, and run Lola run! He fried a bunch of people and came after me. But I ran inside Sea's Bounty, pirate's cave, drank antacid, put up some protections, ran out again. About 20 min of running around I managed to get him after prot. of magical weapons wore off. I was planning on hitting him with Nature's Beauty, but he seemed to be immune. Ruby Ray/Khelbens and such didn't seem to help. Such a pain, that guy. I got him in the end though. And his sanchuudoku, it's so cheese, I like it!!

I'm looking forward to what's ahead. Sola, imp. Irenicus, eclipse... For you guys who've played through those, do you think I'll run into problems with my party? Major spell power/flexibility/cheese potential is there, but with all the nerfs I'm not sure what to expect...

Oh, and one more question, after Spellhold, will my berserker/mage lose her enrage ability (she will right?)? Is it going to come back? A berserker/mage with no enrage is simply a fighter/mage -- a kensai/mage will definitely claim the cake...

Cheers!

Enrage shouldn't vanish as its not a Bhaalspawn power -- as long as you've got enough mage levels to reactivate the first class. Assuming you've also got all the improved monster scripts installed too, you'll probably be very grateful for that ability...

I've beaten Imp. Irenicus in 5 days :o ; the Eclipse party in 5 tries (without cheese, too!! :D ), though it's considered much more difficult.

Party composition ultimately determines the actual level of the challenge.

You can do them with almost any party anyway, you'll encounter problems
when others hadn't, while other problems will be skipped.
That's it.
Have fun!
Do you have Ascension, too? I strongly suggest it!

No problems for your berserker/mage abilities.
(Kensimages are cooler, BTW! :D :D )

You're already playing with two sorcerers and you're worried about power level? :)

Solaufein is one of the most powerful NPCs in the game, and Tashia and Kelsey are no slouches either. If you keep that gang together, you'll be in good shape. Wes's challenges like Eclipse are quite tough but if you could handle Kuroisan, you're clearly up to thinking around his problems.

@Littiz, yes I do have Ascension, the lastest WEIDU version installed. I'm looking forward to some nice surprises/challenges ahead.

@jcompton, the more I play with my current party, the more I realize it's retarded to be worried about power level with two sorcerors in the party (in adition to a berzerker-mage and a cleric-ranger). I guess I had never played with two sorcerors before, but now, even at level 15/16 Kelsey and Tashia are awesome in power.

I did the first two levels of WK last night, came back to the Docks and decided to visit KXX for old-time's sake. And what was my surprise: there were two of his buddy liches and some other nasties there to greet me!! I decided not to run away but to take them head-on, without serious pre-buffing (everyone was stoneskinned & main character mirror-imaged from the routine skirmish with the random encounter party of 6 near the Thieves' Guild). Before I could cast Nature's Beauty, my Ranger-Cleric died from their Abi-Dalzims but I carried on. Tashia's Projected Image managed to unload 2 Abi's and a Delay Blast Fireball before being dispelled while Kelsey True Sight-ed and Ruby Ray-ed the liches, followed by Death Spell to get rid of those Hakeashars and Mordies that they summoned. Main char, berzerked & tenser-ed finished off the fighter and the dwarf (that dwarf is a nasty, eh) while Tashia flinged 2 more Abi's. One lich died but the other managed to catch Kelsey unprepared and wilt him to death. Tashia and main char were left standing against the injured lich. Although I managed to get level drained in between rages, once the lich's Prot. from Magical Weapons wore off he died rather quickly. Wow! It was rather an encounter, but seeing how we were able to pull through I feel much more confident about this party's potential. I'm even thinking about increasing the difficulty...

[update - spoilers incl.]

2 Sorcerors is too much, I've decided. You can fry anything pretty much and now that I've got all the time stops/project images/chain contingencies/spell triggers I barely have opportunity to use my berserker/mage and my cleric/ranger multi just stands there and watches while Tashia & Kelsey finish off the baddies. It's a little too much. So I left Kelsey for a while so that I can romance Tashia...

Underwater city -- no problem with mass invisibility and main character with reflection shield. got swallowed once but as long as you don't get in range of that nasty sekolah avatar, you can dragon breath it to death. A strange bug (it's happened before without any mods) prevented me from getting to the underwater city the regular way. When Saemon's ship was boarded by the Gith, the Sahuaguin didn't arrive and I was stuck. Had to MoveToArea()...

I had finished off WK down to but not including the Imprisoned One before heading to spellhold, so everyone is naturally pretty high in level. The underdark was quite easy. Got Sola and now he and my PC are doing the Imp.Haste/Tensor/Mislead combo OMG!! portable sushi machines. Mind Flayers were all slain in seconds (had PC berzerked and Sola w/ chaotic commands), no screwing around there.

But the best was Improved Bodhi. I'm playing on hard, it's not insane, but still respectable level and I finished her and undead sola on the first try, bang! The berzerker/mage did all the work here... Amulet of power + the regular buffs (Mirror, Stoneskin, Imp. Invisibility, Remove Fear, Prot. from Evil, Spell Immunity: Abjuration) plus Spell Trap & Prot. from Magic Energy. Berzerk of course, then Contingency: Mislead on self if hitpoints 50%. Chain Contingency: Prot. from Magical Weapons + Simulacrum + Abi-Dalzim's on self if hit. Next to last, Black Blade of Disaster!!! Finished off with the classic trigger: Imp. Haste + Tensor's + Mislead and send her in straight to Bodhi. Black Blade slices through Bodhi like crazy, level drains her four levels at a time (BTW, shouldn't undead be immune to level drain, it's their bloody ability after all...), healing my PC, while Bodhi and her baddie spider were targetting my Simulacrum, flinging Cloud of Bats and what not. No Cloud of Bats over my PC, he he. Bodhi died really rather quickly and easily. I finished the spider off next, then headed to Undead Sola, who had torn Drizzt to pieces and was busy attacking my mislead image. His Prot. from Magical Weapons had about 2 rounds left, but after that wore off, he died in seconds. One hit with Black Blade berzerked & tensored does over 30 dmg on average!! My PC was still berzerked & had the black blade by the time I was done!! Now that's power...

I just forged the water scimitar blade from the item upgrade mod. It supposedly protects from horrid wilting. Now, I'm wondering, if you have it equipped and cast Black Blade, should its protections carry over while you're wielding the Black Blade?
