This has been somewhat of a joint effort so you can raise your concerns with all of us if needs be.

I'm going to make this thread sticky, so it won't vanish from mind and sight.

Personally I think it is a good idea to post (and expand on) the rules directly in the forum, sticky threads have proven to draw viewers...especially as it is more likely they visit the forums before the forum rules link at the top of the page. Good call guys :)

My point of view

I think you mods are doing a great job. This forum is the best I've seen so far, that's why I'm still here. People here follow the rules and treat eathother with respect and so do I.
It's very rare you see people that can be so serious and smart in one post and so funny in another.

There are rarly/no any problems as far as I know. The sticky is in my point of view not really necessary but it can't hurt.
Guinness is good for you.
Gives you strength.

I think it's an excellent idea to elaborate and clarify the general board rules for SYM specifically. Personally, I especially appreciate point 4.

Mods, you are doing a great job, keep it up :)

good idea. I think it is especially useful to avoid the 'Yay I've reached my 45609th post, only 338596 until post number 498694394' type. And helpful guidance for the heatedreligous debates I seem to always get tangled up in  . You're all doing a great job mods, well done... ;)

So much for Counting with Aegis... :D

Actualy, this is a good call. Lately I've noticed a lot of other forums get shot to hell because of a lack of rules. Now, we can at least buffer SYM from that sort of thing.

Considering the mess that members can cause in message boards and the number of members GB forums have, GB forum is indeed one of the best forums around, not only for the munimum problems that sometimes rise up but for the fact that GB forums are a community where people respect each other and enjoy be part of it. That's why rules should be made not to restrict but to draw the limits. And when the rules are in a sticky thread where everyone will notice and read makes things even better and prevents future problems. Good call. :) :D

.... and furthermore, I think all mods should...
Uh-oh, Toto, I don't think we are in my personal journal anymore....

Ahem.... I think fable should consider changing his name to Legend and Mr. Sleep should become Insomniac Dude. Thank you for considering my concerns.

(Seriously, thanks to all of you for the respectful and intelligent way that you go about moderating this forum). :)

Sounds reasonable.

Well done, mods.

No worries,

Beldin

EDIT: After reading the rules again -I have ONE question:
2) Keep the spam relevant. By this we mean make it entertaining or at least sociable. Not just nonsense such as "Spam is good" or counting down to landmark posts. These sorts of posts will be deleted. Also please don’t spam topics in which the poster has requested no spam.
Isn't that one an oxymoron ? SPAM and RELEVANT in one sentence ? :D
What does that mean for those "Taverns" out there ?

I agree with Beldin that the rules are reasonable and that it's a good call to make a sticky out of them. However, I must also share Beldin's concern about the Taverns. They are the only places where you can just drop by to relax. Where do you draw the line between "socializing" and unacceptable SPAM?

I would have said it is up to the poster to use their common sense, if one was too make twenty different reply's all saying "Grog Me!" then i think that is unacceptable. What is the general opinion of everyone on this issue?

Hmmm... Sleepy, how dare you spam this rule thread! :D :p

Actually, I think tha was covered in the rules. Some examples were things like counting down to milestones and such. As long as the post as some relevance, or at least some substance, it should be fine.

What i mean to find out is some more specifics, such as what some of the more regular tavern posters do and don't appreciate in their thread, since i am not much of a punter myself, i don't know.

@Mr Sleep,
I think you'd better start a new thread on this. Basically, your question has the potential of invoking a lot of replies that will have less to do with the SYM rules ;) .

I think the mods are doing an excellent job, and I think the rules are very reasonable.

I have a question though...

Sometimes we are told that we are spamming up a thread in SYM...

But...well..this is SYM after all....the land where I thought this was acceptable and this has happened in threads with specific topics but without the 'no spam' in the title or opening post or anywhere. I get confused, because I thought going off topic in a friendly way was okay, and it is in some threads, but not in others? I guess I sometimes enjoy the way a thread takes a life of it's own and twists and turns into uncharted territory...

It depends again on specific situations, if the thread is there for a particular discussion it can be very annoying for the poster of that thread to be bogged down in non relating spam, it is for the Thread Starters discretion that the No Spam title gets placed on something.

As an example, the old anatomy thread, that was probably 23 pages long (back in the 40 posts a page days) and look at the current one, we have all the information there, one doesn't have to wade through a great deal of non-related material to find what they are looking for.
