Pale Pass Chests.

Post by discombob »

Spoilers Below.

This thread is concerning all chests in Pale Pass. I would like to know all 3 locations of every chest in pale pass. Abuse has already come up with a map pointing out the locations of the barrel that starts the treasure hunt, as well as the second and third chest. I would like to know the location of the first chest.

Confession time: I'm a terrible note-taker, unless it's absolutely required of me. This goes back to the games of the early 1980s. And my handwriting, such as it is, has been compared to proto-Sumerian, by people who know nothing of proto-Sumerian.

That said, I *did* find a few notes I jotted down about this quest. Here's what I've got.

You can find the first chest inside that ruined tower west of the dungeon tower.

The second chest's by a ruin forming an "i" or "j" close to the path through the ruins.

The third's SW of the Pale Pass entrance. I wasn't any more explicit than that.

Hope that helps.

While he isn't the most descriptive person, Wrangler did alright in explaining where the chests were and how to get there.

That wrangler guy wasn't super clear on where the first chest was, although I found it all the same.

I edited the map Abuse posted. I didn't boter mapping the black section, but in the ruins on the west of the dungeon door, if you keep looking through the ruins where I circled, that's where the first chest is.

Nice. Useful. This isn't one quest that's well discussed in the sources I've seen, and certainly not well-mapped.

I have updated my map to include the complete solution. (previous link still valid)

The ring is indeed worth obtaining!

Thanks to all who contributed.

All the world loves a smart ass. ;)

Since we're covering all chests, here, how about expanding into the chest contents? You've done a great job, so far. Either you (or Discombob) care to add that? I've not got notes on it, save, of course, "good ring." And I've already moved to a new character, sans ring (for the moment).

So, to restate, this is the final revision of this map.

All thanks to Abuse.

Each chest has a key to the next chest, and it has to be in the right order. It's one of those things that you can spend hours on and wear yourself out on the game by running around and just get pissed and stop playing for a while. This is the only instance I've seen of this in Oblivion, but Morrowind was plagued with stuff like this. Kinda ruined the game at moments.

On the positive side, I increased my athletics and acrobatics 6 or 7 points each while searching for them all. Too bad I'm a spellsword and it does nothing to increase my level...

If anyone is curious as to why this ring was so worth the mapping, perserverance, and overcoming confusion in previous threads, read below.

discombob even minor skills help you when u level up...the more of them u increase the more of a bonus modifier you get for the attribute that accompanies the skill...say minor skill of mercantile goes up a couple times then u level up, and theres a plus 2 or plus 3 by personality.....thats where those bonuses come from...in the long run it helps your character get more powerful....but of course im sure most of u guys already knew this...lol

oh and where do you go to start this quest anyway?

Folks: let us avoid posting spam (@gothy, if you are to thank someone for something, either add your impressions about the matter or edit if you have another thanks to add, dont post two single lined short phrases, aye?) or me and Fable will close the thread. I have deleted the "thank you" spam. On topic discussions are always better.

*note* Some guy comes up to you in public, and tells you the countess wants to see you at your earliest convenience. You get this quest from the countess of Burma. I was actually stuck here, until now. :) (I thought I was gonna have to actually kill all those skeletons in the fort to do this quest!! {Jah!}) I've killed all of or most of the ogres and I'm goin back up there to find me sum loot! Garrgh!

~edit, wait, I finished the madstone quest. It is in the fort with all those dang skeletons...
The chests spoke of here reveal a different item entirely. :)

This quote came from some other thread in this fourm, same topic;
1. "!!! SPOILER WARNING !!!Ok, here's the locations for the ring quest in Pale Pass (or palepass if anyone searches for that since you can't use four letters...):Barrel - 1754x, 16597y - Just a little to the left of ruined fort (left when facing away from the fort)1st Chest - -5370x, 16257y - Right of the fort in the ruined tower2nd Chest - 6016x, 9671y - Behind a rock a little walk down the path from the fort. Look behind rocks near a broken wall.3rd Chest - -1341x, -5380y - Near the entrance to the valley. Just to the left (when facing away from the entrance). Just follow the rock wall. And what you get (also for the search function): Circlet of Omnipotence. It fortifies Agility, Endurance, Speed, Strength and Willpower a constant 3 points."
