Bow questions

Post by Aranan »

K, about archers... what types of bows? Elves get bonuses to hit with longbows, so I was thinking that at first...

The general opinion (from what I've gathered) is that the best bows out of each category are:

SoA:
Shortbow - Gesen
Longbow - Heartseeker or Mana Bow (which?)
Crossbow - Crossbow of Affliction +4 (?), Giant Hair Crossbow +3 (+5 damage, +3 to hit) (which one? GHC?)

ToB:
Shortbow - Darkfire +5
Longbow - Taralash +5
Crossbow - Firetooth +5
(which of those three is considered the best? The quivers of unlimited arrows makes the bows that don't require ammo not that great for me...)

I've used all three of the ToB bows..I'd say that Taralash is the best, but you can't have all of them at the same time, so choose carefully and make sure itr fits your Char...I haven't used either of those SoA crossbows, or the mana bow, but I can say that Heartseeker is pretty lame...

IMO Gesen and Firetooth are way better then the others. I never understood what was good about Taralash and Darkfire. They are just no match for Gesen.

I guess I'll have to test these out one day, making an archer that is 4* in longbows, one in shorts and one in crossbows, then level him up via CLUA to around 25 or so, and spawn some monsters for target practice. Anyone know a nice monster that wouldn't mind to me filling him with arrows?

The Gesen Bow, equipped with OTHER magical arrows, ADDS
the electrical damage to ALL the rest!!!!!
And the arrows fly at NORMAL speed, 'cause the lose the electrical animation!!!
I use it always with Immie, a real Spell Breaker for those stoneskinned spellcasters!!!!!

actually, after some experiments in saradush, at the firegiant wall, I have concluded, with bows its the individual at work, not the weapon. mazzie with grandmastery in crossbows, with firetooth and biting arrows, does around 40 damage per hit. however, her rate of fire is poor, but she somehow gets 1.5 extra attacks per round with shortbows. she is killer with any shortbow. but after careful experiments, the most damage was caused by the highest + weapon firing good, high plus arrows. winner with 30 dmamage per hit is darkfire, for mazzie, with +3 arrows. korgan with firetooth and +4 bolts should do as well.

for econary missile attackers, get the highest plus weapon, to make up for lousy immie thaco and nalia, and put highest plus arrows in them you cna, gesen with +3 arrows would be ideal.

what about the tuigan bow for SoA? an extra attack per round is nice, and u get it very early, unlike gesen.
