Mod Troubles

Post by Skooter327 »

I installed a bunch of mods today.
After the ToB Pacth and Wes' Baldurdash Remix, I installed the Tourtured Souls mod, Wes': Ascension, tactics, item upgrade, Solafien; and Tashia & Kelsey, and Nalia's Romance. Perhaps I got a little overzealous. :)

Anyway, I eagerly started a new game and tried them out.
First problem: Jaheria seems to be "stopping" at least every round if not more often. She'll stop attacking, moving, spellcasting, whatever. I dumped her. Big loss. :p

Second Problem: some goblins saw fit to remove some hit points--no biggie, I thought. I'll rest and get that dialog with Imoen out o' the way. Except for the fact that the movie thats supposed to load doesn't, but locks up my computer instead. Every time. (Think: Do not pass go, do not collect $200.) :(

Does anybody have some advice to offer? Do the mods conflict with each other? Does order of installation matter? Am I to just play the game the way its meant to be played? I realize the mods are offered as-is and the mod-makers have busy real-lives, but any ideas offered here are appreciated.

Your mistake was Tortured Souls and Arnel's Nalia Romance. Both replace your dialog.tlk file (and tons of other files, actually) and so are not compatible with one another.

Plus which, installing one of them after installing another mod is a recipe for disaster.

Your Jaheira problem is caused by your decision to install the Multiromance hack, either out of Ease of Use or BD Remix.

As an aside, you should be careful that you don't double-install things from EoU that you already put in as part of Remix.

You are staring down the barrel of a reinstall, I fear.

You actually should be able to get away with installing all the rest of those mods, as long as you pick either Tortured Souls (and fully patch it BEFORE you install any other mods) or Nalia Romance as the first one.

Certainly, Ascension, Tactics, Item Upgrade, Solaufein, Tashia, and Kelsey will all work together, and all have been reported compatible with Arnel's Nalia (except maybe Tashia, I forget). BD Remix is fine. EoU, be careful about putting in the multiromance, since it causes those stutter bugs.

@jcompton, thank you kindly for your prompt and comprehensive reply. I had backed up all save files I wanted to keep before I started modding, so a reinstall shouldn't be a problem (I hope...), and is currently underway. I will also try again with the mods, this time omitting the EoU/BD Remix multi-romance & Nalia's Romance.
...pick...Tortured Souls (and fully patch it BEFORE you install any other mods)
By "fully patch," I assume that you mean using Tortured Souls' patch and not the most recent ToB "Official" patch; which, as I understand, is to be intsalled before installing any mods, correct?

Yes, that was my meaning. Biopatch before all else.

And if a NEW Tortured Souls patch comes along and you want to install it, you'll quite likely need to strip out all of your WeiDU mods first before applying it, as dollars to donuts it will overwrite dialogue and/or script files that the WeiDU mods will have altered.

Advice to you and all: After you do a clean install and put in the Biopatch, back up:

override
dialog.tlk
chitin.key

That way, if you ever get in a "reinstall" scenario, you can save a lot of time and just replace the old versions of the override dir and those two files with your clean, Biopatched state.

Thanks @jcompton for all of your help and advice! I installed the mods in the order you suggested (omitting the romances), and am playing them smoothly now! :) I still have an ocasional lock-up when resting, but it doesn't hapen too often and is easy to get around. I'm just loving the new content in the game/mods. Thanks again and off to Athkatla I go! :D
