I'm a bit dissapointed they didn't show a glimse of Her. But I'm sure they would have the guts to skipp that episode....
BTW what's the name of the monster in the cave just at the edge of mordor.... I know her name is "Honmonstret" in swedish but in Eng? Directtrasnlation would be "the female/she monster" but I doubt that's the original name

Given that they've already mentioned her in TTT, that's not an option. Plus I'm sure in the trailer I saw, there was a brief glimpse. Time to download it and check...Originally posted by garazdawi

Her name is Shelob.

If by Her you mean Shelob, the trailer does indeed show her for a few scant seconds (watch it again). That part of the book (actually the Two Towers novel) is definately in there.

Shelob is her true Tolkien given name. The name means 'She-spider' ('lob' is an old English word for 'spider').

I thought so... you see Sam covered in spider webs as well, IIRC - that's a giveaway.Originally posted by Kayless

Anyone else intrigued by the ad about cinematic screenings of the extended editions back-to-back just before RotK is released? Hope they're doing a show in this country...

I don't remember Samwise being covered with webs in the trailer, just Frodo.
Also, at one point you see Frodo looking up at Galadriel but he's covered with webs.
*Spoiler/speculation*
Presumably this a from vision/hallucination he has after he's been bitten.

Well, it could have been Frodo, these hobbits all look the same...
I'm not talking about the part where he's on the ground though, I thought you see Sam alone, covered in webs... which would make sense plotwise.
And I agree - there's really no other way that part could have been worked in.
So... how does anyone think they're going to end it? Will they put in the return to the Shire? What other changes might they have made? Make your speculations here!
Edit: I just checked, and it is the first hobbit you see in the trailer - you only see him from the back, but you can tell it's Sam from the colour of his hair. This is getting sad now.
Curious that Denethor isn't seen in the trailer at all.

I just re-watched it. Sam is never shown with webs on him.

We know how it's going to end (assuming things haven't changed). Sean Astin revealed a while back that the last scene is (supposedly) him in the Shire with Rosie and his daughter (played by Astin's real life daughter).
The hair is too dark to be Sam's. That's Frodo.Originally posted by Georgi

There'll be plenty of time for him later (since this isn't the last trailer). He was already in the RotK trailer that came with the TTT DVD. He's also going to be in the extended edition of TTT as well.

I don't think they will show the return to the shire.... i thikn I heard someone say that they cut that part sout as the movie was long enough without adding that part of the book.... I'm really going to miss seing Frodo kick sauruman's @ss
oh maybe I should have put that as a spoiler..... oh well...what's done is done

*mind out for spoilers*
What about Gandalf taking Pippin to Mordor? The mechanics of that can't work the same way, because Gandalf already knows about the palantir and how Saruman was using it, that was covered in FotR.
Beg to differ. (See edit above.)Originally posted by Kayless

I didn't know that... but then again, that doesn't give all that much away, does it? I mean, a lot could have been changed between the end of TTT and that scene. Even in the FotR extended edition, they didn't have the part where Galadriel gives Sam that seed...We know how it's going to end (assuming things haven't changed). I disagree... plus you wouldn't see Frodo walking alone straight after Shelob's attack, would you?Originally posted by Kayless
The hair is too dark to be Sam's. That's Frodo. Your love of the halfling's leaf has clearly slowed your mind.

@garazdawi I reckon they've probably cut down the ending quite a bit, although how exactly they will have changed it, I'm not sure. They could have Saruman dealt with at Isengard, and then the hobbits could just go home in peace at the end.
Oh, anyone else think the scale of the battle at Minas Tirith looks pretty awesome?

We've known since forever that the Scouring of the Shire was out. But that doesn't mean they won't show our hobbits back home again.
According to theonering.net's frame by frame analysis it's Frodo there.Originally posted by Georgi

So do I. I just watched a friend's copy. The cool thing is that the special features and commentaries are different. So even if you get both versions there's still some unique stuff that makes the original worth having.

@K: I just have one question for you- is TTT still best movie ever?
(Now- you've had a few months to think about this redicules statement, so hopefully the Jackson hypnosis has worn off)
BTW: The trailer does indead look great
BTW2: I'm actualy expecting PJ's King Kong more than RoTK. At least there he has some room to move without totaly missing the point
Morlock- who'd do anything for one of those congenial Kayless flames
Morlock2- who rarely agrees with Georgi about these stuff
Morlock3- who has yet to form an opinion of garazdawi's taste in movies

Mordor? What kind of sick freak is Gandalf?! Taking poor Pippin to Sauron like that.
Hmmm, maybe I had heard that and just forgotten. I was just having a discussion with a friend at the weekend about whether or not they would put it in, and I thought they wouldn't, so I probably subconsciously remembered hearing that. Or I could be psychic. My friend thinks it would ruin the ending to take that out... but I can see why they would. We've known since forever that the Scouring of the Shire was out. But that doesn't mean they won't show our hobbits back home again.
They're wrong, and so are you. The hair colour is too light to be Frodo.According to theonering.net's frame by frame analysis it's Frodo there.
I wish my budget could stretch to that, but probably not. Hell, by the time TTT extended version comes out, my brother will probably have moved out and taken his DVD player with him... that would be unfortunate. So do I. I just watched a friend's copy. The cool thing is that the special features and commentaries are different. So even if you get both versions there's still some unique stuff that makes the original worth having.
Seems the most sensible way to do it, if they've taken out the scouring of the Shire. That's what I've heard.
Oh yes. More technical Oscars going their way... (and fingers crossed for the big ones this time, eh?)Doubtless. I loved the shots of the Fell Beasts dive bombing.

Who, me?!?
I'm looking forward to Return of the King. I don't intend to watch the trailer or seek out spoilers, though. I want to go to the theater and enjoy the movie.
I've read (and re-read) the books, though, so I have some idea of what's to come. One thing I noticed about The Fellowship of the Ring and The Two Towers is that they both took liberties with the original sequence of events for dramatic purposes. I heartily approve of that; it results in great movies. For example, Boromir didn't die in the first book (and Aragorn didn't kill the chief orc), and there are some things coming up in Return of the King that actually took place in the second book.
The Fellowship of the Ring ended on a foreshadowing note (you knew that Aragon, Gimli, and Legolas would be searching for Merry and Pippin in the next movie and "hunting orcs"). The Two Towers ended on yet another foreshadowing note: you know that Gollum is leading Frodo and Sam into a trap. The Two Towers, like its predecessor, began with an exciting battle scene (involving Gandalf and the Balrog). So I'm expecting Return of the King to begin on a similarly exciting note. You heard Gollum--he's taking Frodo and Sam to meet her.
The scene with Shelob is my favorite scene of all in the books. If the filmmakers can pull it off, it might be the scariest thing we've ever seen on film. If you haven't read the book, I don't want to spoil it, but I'll say this. When Frodo and Sam head into Mordor, they don't have anyone with them to protect them. Gandalf, Aragorn, Boromir, Gimli, and Legolas are long gone. If the two hobbits get into a fix, they have to get out of it all by themselves.
There's a significant difference between the books and the movies. In the books, the hobbits are very stealthy (not clumsy), and they can hold their own in a sword fight. In The Two Towers (the movie), when Merry and Pippin drew their swords against the orcs, the orcs simply swept them up and carried them off. That's not what happened in the book. In the book, Merry killed and dismembered so many of them (he chopped off their arms and fingers), they had to hit him on the head really hard to make him stop, since they were under orders not to kill him. In the books, Merry and Pippin go on to become the greatest halfling warriors the Shire has ever known (as well great historians). As a result, I don't think the way they are portrayed in the movies is all that fair or accurate. But the point is, they aren't completely helpless in a fight, no matter how they are portrayed in the movies.
SPOILERS
In Return of the King, we'll see Sam rise to the occasion in spite of his modesty. If you've ever read the "LOTR Secret Diaries" (a silly spoof that someone put on the internet), you'll see there's some truth to the line, "Sam will kill him if he tries anything."
Frodo all but gives up, and he vows never to raise a sword again because he has seen too much killing, so Sam steps up to the plate, never realizing how great a hero he really is. That's why the scene with Shelob (one of the scariest monsters that has ever lived) is my favorite scene of all, and I'm really looking forward to it.
