Lately I have not been able to get into any games, any at all really. I have been looking for an RPG that is open-ended, but not too open ended(Oblivion, Gothic 3, Morrowind all got too boring too me as they are TOO open ended).
I don't want to have to sit there for days leveling (AKA WoW) but don't want it to be rediculously easy.
I think I may start playing Sacred again, just as I never really gave it a shot, and it seems like it would be fun.

I enjoy a good story line, along with feeling accomplished with upgrading your character. I also do not like dark and gloomy games. I don't mind if its sci-fi, or fantasy.

Thanks for the help guys!

David

Mass Effect and Knights of the Old Republic I and II could be of some interest to you. And the folks here think quite highly of Planescape: Torment too.

All worth playing, especially PS:T. It's an older game, but if you like that sort of thing, then definitely also check out the Baldur's Gate series.

I'd add The Witcher to that list, too. It's not terribly difficult, but it's a fun game with a good story.

I recommend Might&Magic 6 or 7. Great character development, a lot of freedom but you still have a main quest to fulfill.

Like the previous posters suggested, try the Baldur's Gate series as well as Planescape: Torment. Also, I strongly recommend Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines.

You might like the Icewind Dale series as well. And definitely, do check out the Baldur's Gate games, amongst the best!

I'm not sure I'd suggest either The Witcher or Planescape: Torment to you, though. In my view they are excellent games, and I usually like to mention them when people ask this question.. Indeed, I view PS:T as the finest RPG ever made, period. However, both Witcher and PS:T have a dark, melancholic, brooding feel to them... so if you are looking to avoid gloomy, I'm not sure they'd be for you. If you think you can tolerate this, though, and you appreciate a good storyline, they might be worth looking into.

Didn't the thread starter already state he has played all the fallout games? In any case, i just thought id add Neverwinter Nights 2 and its expansion Mask of the Betrayer to my recommended list. They have pretty decent storylines, but you could say that for MotB especially, the story is quite dark. But definitely worth a go, imho.

Devil May Cry 3 and 4 are fun to play, the first two games are only on PS2, but 3 and 4 are for PC as well.
DMC 3 is a bit more difficult than the 4th one, which is easier and also fun to play, the 3rd can be frustrating at some points, but there's nothing better than making a Stylish combo on a demon , anyway, try one of these two or both if you wish, you'll enjoy them and Dante is extremely funny, his dialogues with other characters and scenes make all the hard work worth it, lol.
A good MMO with not too much time wasted on leveling is Guild Wars. I must tell you that WoW is extremely easy compared to Guild Wars. The PvP is worth the money and Guild Wars does not imply a monthly fee as WoW. The PvP is so much fun and it is very well conceived.

As many have mentioned, Baldur's Gate is really, really good, and definitely worth checking out if you've never played it before. I suggest using mods, especially the Tutu mod (stands for "to two" as it changes the game engine to the BG2 engine, improving the resolution, making it generally more playable).

Mass Effect and KotOR are also good suggestions, although, in my opinion, nowhere near as just-plain-flipping-awesometacular as Baldur's Gate.

I assume "All Fallout games" includes the third one, but it might not since it's not part of the original series. If you haven't played it (sounds unlikely, but just throwing it out there in case), you might want to.

Lastly, not sure if it's your style, and it's not even usually my style, but I'm actually rather enjoying Dungeons and Dragons Online, which recently went free...completely free. You don't even have to buy it like Guild Wars; It's initially free, and free to play, with an option to buy stuff from the in game store, if you want. Me, I'm cheap. I can say from personal experience you can go a long ways without dropping a cent. It's worth checking out, unless you just don't like MMOs.
