The Gull's Roost Tavern and Inn

Imagine you have been ambling along a beach for the better part of the day. The raucous crying of gulls and the crash of surf upon cliffs resonates within your ears, while the tang of ocean brine fills your lungs with each breath.

The sun is bright and the wind, blowing in from the west, is invigorating. All of a sudden you see a structure in the distance. As you come closer, you note that it is surprisingly large. Weathered clapboard gives the building a slightly distressed look, but the sign you see above the door looks warm and inviting.

Welcome to the Gull's Roost Tavern, a meeting ground for old sailors, restless spirits and thirsty wanderers

You remember that you are indeed thirsty, and perhaps a little hungry as well. Inspired by the sudden image of your favourite beverage and a plate of food you push open the solid wooden door. As your eyes adjust to the dimmed light you can see a long oaken bar behind which reside rows of gleaming bottles. Ceramic handles indicate a large selection of ales on tap, while the scent of home-cooked food wafts from the kitchen. A band is setting up in one corner of the tavern, and a passing serving wench carrying a tray piled high with food and frothing mugs of ale draws your attention to the extensive menu.
Patrons occasionally wander in and out. It is not bustling, but there is a lively feel to the air.

You find a table and sit down.

Well.... I did say "favourite beverage." I mean, technically, that could also mean organic fruit juices or a nice glass of soy milk  :p

Hmmm... Though I suppose it could also be fairly said that many of the people who indulge in organic fruit juices and soy milk already inhabit an alternate universe of their own to begin with :D (well, at least those around the Hippy Coast anyway :p )

Do people actually drink soy milk for fun? I used to have to drink it as a kid and its disgusting :speech:

Yes, they do :D
At least along the West Coast of North America anyway. It all stems from the hippy culture of the 60s and 70s.
Actually, I've had the stuff, and it really varies in taste and quality. Some of it *is* godawful, practically to the point of sending you to the porcelain alter. But, I've also tried brands that are surprisingly good. I hate the taste of cow's milk, so consequently I've attempted many of the alternatives.

Still... the health food nuts take it to a real extreme. It's not uncommon while standing in a lineup to get a coffee to hear, "Could I please have a decaf, no-fat, no foam, soy latte."
*shudder* I mean really... why bother?

The point is, of course, to make you feel guilty about your own choice of drink :p

You do have a point there actually :D Many of these people tend to be a bit on the self-rightious side. These are often the same individuals who join PETA and consider themselves at the vanguard of a new age  :D

@Greg,
well I thought you'd like that, knowing your fondness for grizzled seafarers and all. Indeed, come to think of it, I probably had you in mind :p

By the use of bold lettering, and pointing out of key words there, one could on deduce that you are, in fact, overjoyed by the company you will gain by coming here. One can only feel love and joy for having made you happy. Perhaps, after you have met the sailor of your dreams, you will send DW a nice gift basket of muffins, or some form of Hippy health food, in appreciation...

SLAP

For good measure...

ROFL! :D

And btw Greg, make sure those are flaxseed muffins. That shouldn't be a problem for you since I'm sure there are no shortage of organic ingredients in your particular location. :p

I must be the opposite to the health food fanatics then as I always order the least healthy drink possible if I go out for a coffee - why have something I could make at home when I could have something fancy :D

Can I bring my kids in here? 'Cause if I've been ambling on a beach all day, you can be sure that the kids have been nipping at my heels most of that time saying, "I'm hungry. I'm thirsty. Can I have some water? Can we have a snack? My feet are tired. When can we go back? Can we go swimming yet? I'm still hungry! ....."

So do you serve juice boxes and corn dogs here? :D
That there; exactly the kinda diversion we coulda used.

Of course! :D All ages welcome!
As long as they don't come up to the bar asking for a pint though, I don't want to be arrested for serving minors

Drinks? Sounds good to me!

I'll have some orange juice, please!

What? What? Is it something I said?

I happen to like orange juice. Is that so wrong?

Is orange juice a beverage? I don't think it is.

Whoops. Looks like I came to the wrong place. Says its for old sailors, restless spirits and thirsty wanderers. Since I fit none of the above as my avatar is that of a soldier (World War 2), I think I'll just move along.
''They say truth is the first casualty of war. But who defines what's true? Truth is just a matter of perspective. The duty of every soldier is to protect the innocent, and sometimes that means preserving the lie of good and evil, that war isn't just natural selection played out on a grand scale. The only truth I found is that the world we live in is a giant tinderbox. All it takes...is someone to light the match" - Captain Price

lol!

I define "beverage" by any substance one can drink... Er... on second thought, I'd better clarify... So, for example, fruit juices, water, tea, coffee, sodas, alcohol etc. are *all* beverages in my books :D

Hey, I was trying to be atmospheric, I'm a closet frustrated writer wannabee. Please allow me some poetic licence at least :D

See, now that's the spirit! :p
