There's a bug described at baldurash very similar to what you are saying. Why don't you go there?

Being an Evil Overlord seems to be a good career choice. It pays well, there are all sorts of perks and you can set your own hours. However every Evil Overlord I've read about in books or seen in movies invariably gets overthrown and destroyed in the end. I've noticed that no matter whether they are barbarian lords, deranged wizards, mad scientists or alien invaders, they always seem to make the same basic mistakes every single time. Therefore, if I ever happen to become an Evil Overlord, ...

I think you should look again. There are three coffins in that room.

Ok, not to question your competence or anything, but sometimes it's hard to scroll around and actually make the mouse change into the stake-cursor. And, make sure you have enough stakes, I made that mistake (and I felt bad). Oh, and you did go down to the second level and get challenged by a vampire there right? You go there, he challenges you, then you go the "spike" room and kick some vampire posterior! Hope I'be helped.

Actually, I had quite a similar problem. I had one vampire you can kill there, I think his name was Lasal or something, disappearing into the wall. When I used the detect evil abitlity, it showed, that there was one left, but He was nowhere to be seen in the game. So I tried the following trick. I knew the location, where he/she had disappeared, so I went near thet place and used the Sunray ability with Daystar and what do you know, the Vampire took some damage, then appeared and attacked me, after which............I killed the bastard :D .
