I am definetly confused more about how to enable them.
Are there not enough dangers in this world without seeking new perils?

Go to your game folder (BGII-SoA --even if you have ToB installed, that's usually the folder's name), open it, search for baldur.ini file, open it. Under Program Options write Debug Mode=1 , save the file and exit. Cheats are enabled.

I know for sure that using Ctrl+Y keys will kill an enemy, but I haven't ever tried the combinations VonDondu suggested.

other [ctrl] cheats
[ctrl] + y: kill enemy instantly
[ctrl] + h: set wild surge number (every time spell is casted the effect would be the same as that number on chart)
[ctrl] + q: npc join party
[ctrl] + k: kick anybody out of party, even protagonist
[ctrl] + r: heal and remove all effects and resurrects

those are the ones i use most when using cheats

The cheat I use the most is Ctrl-J. All selected characters will "jump" (or teleport) wherever your mouse is pointing. It beats walking everywhere all the time. :)

I had a lot of fun with Ctrl-Q a couple of years ago when I first heard about it. If you want to see whether certain spells will work against a creature like Draconis, you could add him to your party to make the testing easier. I would have done that myself on Friday if I'd had more time.

I suppose it could also save your life if you are injured really hard and your pc has 1-5 hit points left... Does the "jump" take effect right away?

Just a thought...

Will the Arrows of Dispelling (?) work against his Spell Immunity: Adjuration? Not for harming him, of course, but for dispelling his protection spells quickly, especially with the Tuigan Bow (the one which fires 3 shots per round).

I actully managed to beat this guy the third time around. When he first turned into dragon form I pulled all of my characters out of the way, used Imoen to cast some sculltraps. Cast firestorm on him. Then I proceeded with the whole lower resistance and breach and remove magic and all that while my tanks beat him up pretty badly. I finally killed him with a holy smite. I was almost suprised when he fell. None of my characters suffered any real damage. I buffed them all up with stoneskin, haste, chant, resist fear etc.

Good luck!

If it's Draconis' breath weapon that's giving you grief, well...

I was amazed to find recently that it's got a rather large bug with it. So do a few of the other dragons. I had investigated it because it didn't seem like Protection from Acid was working against it. Well, it does work. But the breath weapon was misdefined so the damage gets applied twice, even more, per hit. Without acid protection, and without making the saving throws, it can do up to 384 HP of damage in one shot.

If anyone having a real problem with Drac wants the fix before it's released, please drop me a line (e-mail, PM ,whatever, as long as I get an e-mail address.) It will be in the next update of Baldurdash.

A good tactic to defeat Draconis is to use Energyblades.
I recently soloed a Kensai/Druid (13/28) and he had no problem with Draconis in that way.
I summoned a Greater Elemental and a Deva to distract him.
Energyblades is the best way to get rid of the Stoneskins if you have no spells like Breach. And with the high rate of 9 attacks per round and the electrical damage you interrupt most of the spells of Draconis

Hi, new to this game and this board and glad to see so many cheats discussion in the strategy forum :)

Anyway, I found out the longer the battle drag on the more difficult it becomes. I have a fighter/mage in my party so I beat Draconis easy. What I did was that when I hurt the human form close to death, the fighter/mage start to cast time stop. If you time it right after the dialog finished, your time stop spell will be casted before he has any protection spell casted. He is nake in front of your next 2 whirlwinds, no creature in BG2 can be nake and withstand whirlwind in timestop!

I stand corrected: Energy Blades will hurt Draconis. I don't know why they were ineffective when Imoen tried to use them in the battles I previously described. In any case, I tried it again, and my Cleric/Ranger was able to do quite a bit of damage to Draconis after Jan cast Breach. I used a combination of Critical Strike and Energy Blades, which is quite a boon for multi-class Clerics, Druids, and Mages.

Welcome to the board, CyanCurve. Your comments have been noted and appreciated. :)

I've noticed that breath weapons "hit twice", but I always assumed that's the way it's supposed to be. It's surprising to learn that it's caused by a bug.

I found Draconis so easy, once I had my strategy down he fell within two turns

while he's in human form, have someone with the staff of the ram +6 strike him and see if you can get his body to fly back into the entrance to Abazigal's lair. When he turns into dragon form, he can't get out. Then have your mages to Time Stop+Improved Alacricy, cast Pierce Magic a whole bunch of times and then use Abi-Dalzim's Horrid Wilting.

He fell to Imoen and Nalia and only got one invisible stalker out.

Okay, just because it is so hard and it's fun to brag, I'm going to run down how I beat him. It went really quick, but that doesn't mean it was easy. I tried and failed a TON of times first, before deciding to go back to that guy in Amkethran and loading up on stuff like lower resistance, cone of cold, ice storm, skull trap, greater malison, and secret word. This made all the difference.

Human form:

As soon as I saw him and he talked to me I paused. I have three tanks (minsc, valygar, sarevok) with boots of speed, and a monk, so they're all really fast. I gave them all greater whirlwind and sent them to rush for draconis. I also (while paused) set Aerie casting oracle and Imoen casting breach. I then unpaused. Draconis cast stoneskin and (i think) mirror image. My tanks were on him instantly, and soon after oracle was finished, so he was visible. Right after, breach was done, so now he's completely vulnerable, and it only takes seconds before he's near death. I had done this about five times and had it down to a perfection.

Dragon form:

I paused quicky, but he'd already cast all his protection spells. I gave all the fighters whirlwind again and set imoen to cast spell strike, and aerie to cast cone of cold. The spell strike barely hit him but it took all of his protections away. He of course wing buffetted me, and we all went flying but everyone survived. He reappeared right in front of imoen and aerie. My fighters got whirlwind once again and closed in. I started to cast cone of cold with imoen but he nuked her right away. I send aerie running and my fighters reach Draconis. They start tearing him apart and aerie nails him with a cone of cold. She also casts ice storm, but before it starts, sarevok lands the killing blow and Draconis is dead.

I was jumping up and down and screaming at the monitor. :)

I had a really hard time killing him at first too, until i lvled up a bit. It's been a while, so i may not remember this 100% correctly; but, he's really rather easy if you've got a high level mage/sorc. A planetar will deal with his human form, and die when he turns into a dragon. Have chain contingency with 3 lower resistance, and when it triggers cast another with 3 horrid wiltings. Should be badly injured at least, and easy for fighters/summons to finish off.

Some real help

I spent a week trying everything I could think of. But there were too many "problems" and frankly, despite all the powerful weapons and spells, my party was out gunned. During that week, I researched every forum I could find and I began to suspect that nobody had really killed this creature. There was a lot of "try this" and even a "I know but I'm not telling."

Last night, I FINALLY beat him and this is how I did it.

1- Forget the fancy spells. Yes, I know, at this level, there is a tendency to get in there and go for it. Fact is that you are dealing not just with a mage nor a dragon but a mage dragon. Any attempts to zap him will only get you or your party zapped back triple.

Solution: Use old fashion aerials. Yup, fire balls, ice storms, cloud kill.

2- Forget Mordenkainen's Sword. That's why he summons those aerial servants. The swords will go for the first enemy element which "happens" to be those servants.

Solution: Storm of Vengence. It will fight those annoying creatures, allowing you to work on Draconis.

3- Forget True Sight. Yes, the dragon goes invisible, but he's still there and the mage who uses True Sight will be the one the dragon kills when it reappears.

Solution: Use Cloud Kill on an area you think the dragon is in. He WILL appear. He may take a couple of fire balls, but he HATES Cloud Kill.

4- Forget Time Stop. The dragon can hit you faster and with more bang for his buck.

Solution, keep nailing him with aerials so he can't cast anything. Stock up on scrolls, change your memorized spells with ice storm, magic missles, fire balls and especially cloud kill. Sell everything to pick up wands of the heavens, wands of fire, wands of magic missles and especially YES, wand of cloud kill.

5- Best Armour, amulet etc doesn't work!

Solution: cast iron/ stone skin on all characters. cast protection from electricity. cast resist fear.

On fighters only: cast protection from magic. Remember while it allows no magic to penetrate, it also will not allow any magic to leave. So they will be armed only with their weapons.

On mages: put scrolls of spell turning in their quick items.

Plan:

1- prepare party with protection spells, making sure that protection from magic is the LAST to go on fighters.

2- bring fighters in front of mages but do not attack. If you have wands of anything, use that or in the case of your fighter, you should by now have the big unit weapon which fires energy and fire. Their magic bubble should protect them from most of Draconis' spells. And he should go for your fighters before the mages.

3- Keep your mages firing ice storm, cloud kill and fireballs. But pause after each one to see if the dragon is casting anything on your mages. If so, pause and cast a spell turning or just move away. The spell will miss as most of you know when trying to use dispel on a mindless wondering member of your team.

4- When the aerial servants appear, cast storm of vengence.

5- Continue assault on Draconis by hit and run when he gets too close. I even had to leave the whole lair just to heal and give my group a breather.

6- Eventually, you will get a near death on the dragon. NOW you send in your fighters and wrack away. Have two mages use lower resistance and one mage a finger of death.

7- Do it one more time and that should do it.

I've already described my own method of killing Draconis in great detail. (Part of it was specific to my own party, of course.)

What I don't understand is how people are dispelling Draconis's Spell Immunity: Abjuration. You can't use spells from the school of Abjuration to dispel it, such as Spellstrike. Ruby Ray of Reversal might work, but it only dispels one protection spell, and Draconis uses at least two (Spell Immunity and Spell Turning). Breach (from the school of Abjuration) won't work while Spell Immunity: Abjuration is in effect, so I don't see how anyone can dispell Draconis's stoneskins with magic; the only way to remove his stoneskins is to hit him about 60 times.

Draconis also has 100% resistance to acid and 50% resistance to fire as well as 55% resistance to magic, so I don't see how spells that do acid damage and fire damage can be so effective.

To recap my own strategy, I waited until Draconis's Spell Immunity: Abjuration expired, then removed his stoneskins with Breach (Energy Blades and Whirlwind Attacks will also work), and then wailed on him until he was dead. The biggest problem was getting past Spell Immunity: Abjuration while he was inflicting damage on my party. His use of Invisibility and his ability to dispel my own party members' protection spells were also an annoyance.
