How does Improved Critical work ?

Postby Amidala » Sat Jun 29, 2002 10:02 am

I read that there is a feature called Improved Critical.
>>Benefit: When using the weapon the character selected, the character's threat range is doubled.
Special: The character can gain this feat multiple times. The effects do not stack. Each time the character takes the feat, it applies to a new weapon.
Note: "Keen" magic weapons also double their normal, nonmagical threat range. As with all doubled doublings, the result is triple.

Well I found out that it increases the dice range for criticals, so a weapon that only crits at 20 would crit at 19 and 20.
But I dont know what happens to a 19-20 or a 18-20 weapon.

Wow

Have you tested that ?
I was a bit confused because of the Keen weapon part.
What are Keen weapons in NWN ?

keen weapons also double the critical threat range, but it says in the player's handbook for 3E rules that a doubled double is a triple (in other cases besides this as well) - so if you have a weapon that normally criticals on a 19 or 20 like a longsword, and it is a keen weapon it will critical on a 17,18,19.or 20. If it is keen AND you have the improved critical feat in that weapon, it will critical on 15,16,17,18,19, or 20.....which is actually pretty good :) Of course there are some creatures like undead which are immune to critical hits so it is only good in some situations.
May you walk on warrrrm sannd....
