The double doors with the wooden lock on them... I can't push it to open the door. I've tried every angle, what am I missing?

This is a very well known random bug. Try saving, reloading and then moving it.

Thank you, I'll try that.

as well as a bug, you can find the door is locked until you have defeated the guards - not sure of the exact parameters, but I don't think it can be opened until all the guards in that room (and above) are toast.

Bug, plus you must push it

There's the bug that you can usually fix by reloading, but there's also another problem. When I first played the game I couldn't get past that door. The reason being that it's the first door that can't just be opened by using the "activate" button (default "E" key). You must push the bar physically first, then open the door. Also, if there are guards after you, it'll be tough. And they keep coming. It's annoying to say the least.

If you've alerted the level, the guards in that room only respawn about 3 times or so (at least in the official patch). The guards upstairs, though? Save yourself the grief and kill them all.

In response to other posts in this thread, there is no particular order or parameters to clearing the level that will allow the door to open (that I'm aware of), but the reload almost always works - if you do it right. (Assumes you've cleared the level.) Stand right next to the push-bar on the lock. Save the game. Quit the game. Restart the game. Load the save. Push the bar. Quicksaves don't seem to do it.

The bar seems like a physical object like a box or a chair that is interacted by physically pressing your body against it. There's no button needed to interact with it as I know, although the icon that flashes at a very narrow window/area on the bar might imply that it could have been planned so that you needed to click or hold down the interact button when interacting with it (no fighting while shoving the bar as you might occasionally be able to do); which didn't quite work, hence the bug.
