Rolemodels

I may be opening myself to some serious flaming here, but my favourite role-model has always been...

Capt. Jean-Luc Picard of the USS Enterprise.

The discipline, authority, presence, and palpable "I'm in charge here and you'd better do as I say or I'll have you jettisoned into outerspace" attitude strikes a responsive chord.

I think the real-life version of Capt. Picard, and a man I also greatly admire, is our current President, Richard Cheney.

@Eminem: ...is our current President, Richard Cheney.

(blink) Not good ole' Dubbyah, he of the "I'm the most moderate of men," he of the most conservative judicial slate in the history of the US, he of the "I am a friend of trees," he of the ignore-the-Kyoto-Protocols, he of billions of dollars in Star Wars defense?

Maybe Cheney's just throwing his voice, I guess. ;)

You know, Jean-Luc Picard has always compelled me too. Although I'm guessing for different reasons ;) :)
Although I really should pick a female, so I'll say Kirsten Scott Thomas. Strong, intelligent and a damn fine actress.

I think it was very cool of the actor who plays Picard to come out with his homosexuality, since the role is rather stereotypic macho male. He actually made a few jokes about this being quite ironic in an interview I saw. :)

I haven't had any role models since I was a child, but then it used to be famous scientists like Einstein or M Curie.

I get up and go out to my tool shed..what do I see when I walk in?? a rolling tool cart with..Dale Earnhardt..my role model...but what did he do?? he didn't creat anything...he didn't discover anything...strange role model for a strange person. :)

You're a brave man ;)

Patrick Stewart is a good actor. He's a thespian too  (anyone get that joke? anyone?)

Oh, come on! I would think everybody here gets it. :D Unfortunately...

Back in the 1950's, there was a US senator from the state of Florida by the name of Claude Pepper. He was a liberal Democrat, by American standards (which makes him relatively conservative by international standards, but still within intellectual tolerance levels).

After serving his first 6-year term, Pepper was opposed by a Republican candidate who stomped the state telling people that the senator had been a thespian at one time, and that he had matriculated while in college! These, and other similar statements, were the entirety of his campaign.

The challenger won. Pepper was out of a senatorial job.

An uninformed, lazy, easily manipulated public is a more deadly weapon than any bomb.

Heh heh. Reminds me of a job advert here for a local council that asked for "pedagogic" skills - loads of people wrote in to say they didn't want perverts working for the council...

Apparently homeopaths have a difficult time there too (I know I've used that before but its a good joke :D ).

I would prefer Capt. Remius from the "Hunt for the Red October" (IMO the best role of Sean Connery ).

THIS IS THE REAL CAPTAIN not a something pathetic like Jean Luc Picard from Star Trek.

Rolemodels?? - I've never had any rolemodels.
There are people I'd admire for some things they've done - but to say that I want to be like them, or I look up to them - naaaa :)

Waverly. Don't you hear that other voice, the one telling you to walk out of your front door now without any clothes on? I think you should listen to it. :D
