I have just heard that a well known female R&B artist by the name of Aaliyah had died in a plane crash.
I don't know about anyone else, but this is sad news.

I've never heard of her. Tragic, none the less though.

That is very sad. Apparently she had a role in the second Matrix movie. What a bummer, I hate it when people die.

I think they were talking about all the great singers that had died, such as Buddy Holly, Patsy Cline and many others.

IIRC, The Day The Music Died (Don McLean) relates to Buddy Holly - who incidentally died in a plane crash.

Does anyone remember Romeo must die with Jet Li in it? She did the music for it. She had a wonderful voice

She also co-starred IIRC.

And, on a very self-centered note, I am flying home on Tuesday. My plane-phobia is resurfacing as we speak.

It's quite sad really isn't it, she had her whole life to go and it's been wasted

Don't be daft!!
My friend was flying into Sydney and they were descending fine...and then they started going up again. Thene there was ana announcement saying, 'Sorry about that everyone...just a slight miscalculation of the ground.'
I would have been scrabbling for the oxygen and inflating my lifejacket by that point!

I can see Wales's creative output declining once you're back at work- Buck has given you even more incentive to spam!

The first time I ever flew I was on my way to Kitzbuhl (skiing) and flying in a Tri-Star destined for Saltzburg.
We had a message over the tannoy from the captain saying that Saltzburg had low visibility due to fog and no ALS (automatic landing system) so we were being diverted to Munich (a 2 hour coach ride from Saltzberg).
We got to Munich. Then the captain came over the tannoy announcing that there had been a light aircraft crash at Munich and we would have to join a stacking system.
Then the captain announced that the light aircraft crash was more serious and it had taken out the ALS and we did not have enough fuel to wait. We were returning to Gatwick.
My very first experience of flying resulted in taking off and landing at the same airport (and spending the night there with emergency rations of shower gel and paper underwear!)
