Duskey's walkthrough (spoilers)
This post contains spoilers since it's a walkthrough. Blacking out all of it, might be overkill though.
The walkthrough on this site is good for a reference, but it seems to be abit lacking on some parts. It often doesn't list the seduction or persuasion skill needed and stuff like that, so here's my take on improving it abit.
So far I've only the "Surfs Up!" quest, but if I don't find something better to do or get too bored, I might include more. Basically, I want to make a "Quick Index" at the top of each quest that tells you some quick facts about the quest, most noteable the "Max XP" where powergamers can easily see what they need to make the most of their character.
Then I proceed to describe the three oppertunities of solving the quest: Combat, Stealth and Social. They can easily cross-over however as you can social your way through one guard, stealth past the next and then kill your victim with a rain of bullets or a Katana slash.
I've also tried including an overhead view map of the area, but I have no idea what program to use for that. Hard part is you need to draw it all from 1st person view since there are no in-game maps, this will lead to alot of inconsistency and consume alot of time, especially on the later levels.
The only thing I can think of is some sort of map viewer for the game or maybe you can export some stuff from it, I don't know, I'm not into all that technical stuff.
Lemme know what you think:
Surf's Up!
Quick Index:
Previous Step: Wherefore Art Thou, Mercurio?
Next step: Explosive Beginning
Patch: Official 1.2
XP awarded: 3-4
Max XP: Find the money (250$) in the airshaft and return them to Mercurio for one extra XP.
Combat: 1 thug in front, 4 thugs and "Dennis", their leader inside the house. Dennis is not a boss fight. Boss fights are recognized by an enemy health bar showing up in the top of your screen. It is possible to kill the thug in front, without alerting the others. They are armed with baseball bats, tire irons and "thirty-eight" revolvers.
Stealth: Go to the far left of the guard outside by the fence, past the destroyed car. You can remove some planks from the fence and crawl through. Note that if you throw the plank away, the thug out front as well as two from inside the house will come check it out. Proceed to the back of the house where you will find an electronics box. Switch it off and a thug will be sent to switch it on again, strangely enough, the lights won't turn off, only the tv (where one of the thugs is playing a game) and the computer will be off. Note that you cannot turn the power back on so if you wish to use the computer (Hack difficulty 5), do so before.
The backdoor has a lockpick difficulty of 4 and the first door leading to the room with Dennis and the Astrolite is 10. Both doors can be opened without lockpicing from the other side.
Social: Intimidate 3, Persuasion 3 or Seduction 3 will get you past the first guard, but only Seduction 3 and if you're a female character, will get you further. If you do have Seduction 3 and is playing a female character you can talk Dennis into paying him in natural currency. The thug will leave the room and you can suck on Dennis. Suck him dry or not, but pickup the Astrolite and you're done. The thug leaving seems to disappear from the lot completely.
Notes:
- If you pickup the car stereo while on the social or stealth route, the two thugs in the room will turn hostile and engage you in combat.
- The computer has nothing of interest and is filler material.
- When you return to Mercurio, you can give the money to him for a point of experience or keep them to yourself (250$).
Trivia:
In the 1991 movie "The Last Boy Scout" starring Bruce Willis and Halle Barry, Bruce's character, Joe fills in another guy on the details:
Joe: "This is the '90s. You don't just go around punching people. You have to say something cool first"
Jimmy: "So if you hit someone with a surfboard, you say Surf's Up?"
Joe: "Something like that"
Missing Info:
I noticed that when talking to Dennis at Persuasion 3 you don't get any blue lines, but at Initimidate 3 you get one, but it doesn't work. Maybe if you have a really high (like 5 or so) Intimidate, you can chicken him into just giving the Astrolite to you, I'll have to test this one day.
