i am playing a jedi wep master. he has good str and dex, master power attack and flurry and a few force powers. should i be wearing armor which gives a defence of 35ish or robs which give 29???

I usually stick with robes. Too many useful force powers are negated by armor.
But, if those powers are not important to your style of play and/or you just like wearing armor, then wear armor by all means (and don't forget the upgrades).
In my experience, the difference between a 29 and 35 Def is almost nil. The tough enemies will hit you regardless of your defense, and the weaker enemies won't last long enough to hurt you very much.

Well, if you have that low def then armour... But i have a jedi wep master who has 79 defence with robes, i executed the final bosses with him without getting hit for a single time, and i still do alot of damage...

79 defense?!
I can't remember getting my PC's defense over 40!

Robes, no doubt. Just use some Force Powers. Force Aura & Speed spring to mind. That should compensate widely for the loss in Defense.

I use robes only. Why? Here's why:
I am male, and a Jedi Master. I have the power Battle Precognition and my wisdom is very high. I use only items that increase my wisdom and defence mostly. The robes only because armor cancels the power. Now my defence is about 50-60 now. Then I use all the force powers that can posibly increase my defence. Now my defence was impenetrable! And the best part is that with this wisdom I can easily kill all my enemies with force powers! :mischief:

I occasionally run Bao-Dur as a armor-wearing jedi, because his dex is so bad, but as others have said, it severely limits the powers you can use.
I have yet to build an "Armor" Jedi, though I intend to sometime just to see what I can make of it. I always use robes on my main character.

Otherwise, you could try one of those Jedi armours? They accept almost any Armour upgrade and allow Force usage. They do cap your Dex to defense, yes, but that hardly matters.

I never found much advantage in armour, at least not for its defence (some other attributes can be nice!), especially later in the game.
On the other hand if you are a weapon master and relying almost entirely on hitting people with your lightsaber as a way of killing people, then there's no real reason not to wear it. ISTR that the 'speed' Force Powers are usable with armour, and also 'Heal'? And those are the only vital ones for a melee Lightsider.
If you want to get buffing powers, remeber that any power Kreia casts applies to you too. So you can get HER to cast any armor-restricted powers that you need, at least until (spoilers follow)the endgame, when you have to fight alone. Then you might want to switch to robes or Jedi-armor)

Speed can't be used in armour. You should wear the Jedi armours, there's no disadvantage in doing so. (Unless you have a really high DEX.)
Armours allow you to upgrade them with meshes and underlays, and those give VERY nice bonuses.

Yes, it can! You can unequip your armor, then you can cast any force power that is restricted by armor, then put your armor back on, and you will find that the force power isn't negated. If you want to use the force power again, repeat the process.
Makes armor worth using.

This still means it can't be used *in* armour. Anyway, if you want to do this every time you're going to use Speed, be my guest.
Then again, why no simply using the Armours that allow Force Powers to be used? Maybe you have a Defense that's slightly lower, but the Force Armours have bonuses of their own.

I used one of those jedi armors with the following upgrades:
30% dmg immunity vs energy
+3 con/+3 str
Armor stats:
def 3/max dex bonus +4/+1 persuade/+2 cha/+1 wis
In combination with master energy resistance you can just stand and LOL @ blasters and lightsabers. End game battles was a joke. I just didn't care about defense as I had health in the 600s and all enemies fell to 1 hasted flurry, bosses in 2.
