I just read this at Gamespot. Is it true?

I'm sorry to hear that

I was looking forward to a game more like P:T

Does anyone know if they plan to make games more in this style in the future or not?

Not sure, but the hope is there. Torn looked like an amazing game. Perhaps this is signalling the end of the CRPG's. I mean with so many cancellations lately, and people being laid off, and licensing switching around, and coming to an end. It's not looking good for CRPG's future. Let's hope it doesn't come to that...

When I started hearing rumors of this it was toghethter with financial problems - maybe that is (one?) of the reasons.
Let's hope it dosen't spell the death (once again) of CRPG

Damn, that's a shocker. TORN looked like NWN and felt a lot more like a real game--NWN feels like an outline for you to develop, IMO. What a shame! I have to wonder what was going on behind the scenes. As a rule, Interplay doesn't invest its resources without having all its ducks lined up in a row. It all makes me wonder what went really wrong.

"It's official. Interplay has now sent out a brief note on the cancellation of Black Isle's fantasy RPG TORN, which was revealed just four months ago at the Game Developers Conference. When contacted by HomeLAN after receiving this note, a spokesperson for Interplay would not comment on why the game was cancelled nor on what the remaining Black Isle team members are currently working on. Here is the note we just received:
Black Isle Studios' title, TORN, has been canceled. In conjunction with the cancellation, five of the 56 member Black Isle Studios staff were laid off. All of the remaining members of the TORN team are now working on other internal Black Isle Studios RPG products"
My personal opinion - maybe they are panicking about meeting the promised release date for NWN?
We should get these five members onto Gamebanshee!
I hope this does not spell the end of CRPG...

Five laid off out of fifty-six sounds like they're being put on something else. Question is, what that "else" will be.

Most likely be working on the new Star Wars project, maybe trying to get it released in time with the next Star Wars movie.

IMO the star wars product might sell well but i am not sure it will be an innovative project. But looking at Interplays current finacial worries having a product that sells might well be a good thing, maybe they could buy the campionship manager franchise off Eidos

It's an RPG by Bioware, so it's gotta be good.....right?
I hope so.

It definitely *won't* be the Star Wars project. The cuts occurred at Black Isle Studios, a division of Interplay. Bioware, the developer of Star Wars, is working for LucasArts on Star Wars. There's no crossover.

Thanx for clearing that up fable, all these divisions. Gets a tad confusing trying to keep up on the latest news sometimes.

Thats what Fable is around for. To keep us on track, and keep the news straight. Have you ever thought of talking to Buck about getting on the GB staff?

Eh? No, not really. I imagine Buck's application trunk is filled with files. I doubt he needs one from me to make his day.

Yeah, but no offense to the rest of the moderators, but you know more about this stuff then they do! (Buck, and Applebrown not included. They do post a lot of news) I think I'm going to start something to get you on the staff!
