Do you not have an autosave to revert back to so you get the 12-15 minutes back?

For this gate I've never ran outta time. Since it's timed, I just prebuff (either outside the gate or at the entrance). Then I Ruuun for it! :D Skipping most of the daedra.. ..(highlight below)
Spoiler
At the entrance, there's that door to your right. What I usually do - if there's no direct route to the main tower - is scale any of the surrounding towers, cross the sky bridge, then once inside the door - you should be able to look down & see that yellow beam shooting up. At this point, check if you have any fortify life scrolls or potions. Then jump down from the side. (crazy I know, but it works.) Try clinging to the walls so you don't fall too hard. After landing, (wave at any monsters :p ) then run up like you're doing a typical tower.

One other thing, make sure to mark your threads with (possible spoilers). As some ppl helping may end up sharing info.

I pretty much agree with Mz_Trixter, the only adition I'd make is to make as much use of Invisibility/Chameleon as possible, fortify speed and athletics if you can and ignore all enemies, just run like, er, well you gt the idea.

If you're playing on a PC there is an escape using the console, let us know if you can/need to use it.

One more pointer. The Boots of Springheel Jak and fortify acrobatics can make you character jump like a, uh, Springbok. Which means you can scale pretty much any impassable terrain.

If someone reads this thread and does not have to start the game again, like it looks like I have to , because they realise that it would be prudent to turn the autosave off or create another save to fall back on,surely that is not spoiling their gameplay experience but enhancing it.

I would definitely recommend making a separate save as soon as you've passed through the gate and entered Oblivion.

It's unfortunate that you're playing on the Xbox redruss68, playing on a PC is definitely a lot less frustrating.
