Question 1:

Okay, I have the crystal shard (remains from the crystal heart of Nolaloth after you break it), which says you can convert it to radiant fire, air and power essences with a craft alchemy skill of 10 or more.

so I take it back to CR Keep, give it to Qara (CA skill of 18), put it in the Alchemist's Workbench....

then what????

I can't find any instructions in any of the recipe books (I KEPT THEM ALL!)



Question 2:

To summon Mephasm in the CR Keep basement, you need 4 things, 1 of which is a faint power essence. Apparently I can get a radiant power essence from the crystal shard, but will that work? What impact is it if things are better than you need when crafting? If that won't work, where can I get a faint one? I checked all the merchants I have access to now (near end of Act III, just before the start of the war).

#1: Use the Mortal and Pestle directly on the crystal shard, as you do with all the other distillable items. No workbench required for this. Instructions for distilling

Faint power essence doesn't equal to its radiant counterpart. If you are really desperate for it, use the mortar and pestle on the Radiant Power Essence and that should break it up into the lesser parts. If it doesn't do first time, then try again on what the radiant essence yielded.
