Should I use light or heavy armour on my breton female character? What are the pluses and minuses? Thanks!

It really depends on what class you are. If you play as a stealth class, then light armor would work better. As a tanker then go for heavy. But as I suppose a Breton would be a caster naturally, then I recommend light armor. It will allow you to move faster and become harder to detect whilst in sneaking mode (weight of boots). The negatives are that light armor degrades faster and has a lower absorption rate than heavy armor.
By the way, what has gender got to do with the type of armor you are wearing?

in morrowind, the gender had slightly different stats for each race (more realistic

) dunno if it works in oblivion that way tho

As Loki say, depends on what character class you are. Certainly as a battlemage i prefer heavy armour.can cast spells and go toe to toe with the bad guys / victims. Even better if you can get your repair skill up to journeyman as can repair enhanced armour.

I see. I have never played Morrowind, but I am pretty sure that gender doesn't affect stats in Oblivion.

ya, your gender affects your starting stats just like in Morrowind
