Non-class conversation skills in MotB

Is it worth investing points in non-class conversation skills in MotB if you're not a sorcerer? Personally I got the feeling that a few points in conversation skills, even non-class, help a lot in the beginning. But towards the end you tend to need max class value + some extra even to succeed most of the times.
So how is it in MotB? Are non-class conversation skills still worth having, or are they just wasted points? What do you think? What are your experiences?

I personally don't think that conversation skills are 'critical' as gameplay goes since more than half the time you're killing everything around you ,although I usually choose the 2 worth having depending on the char (Intimidate, Diplomacy) or (Diplomacy, Bluff) if im playing some form of a rogue. I wouldn't recommend trying to max each one...but if there's a few extra points on the side, it can surely add to the fun factor. I just like trying different things out to see any alternatives in any of the conversations

That's not what I was asking. I just wanted to know if I will succeed the checks with maxed out non-class conversation skills, so that I don't waste points there if I won't succeed any checks anyway.

Some checks are hard, so you'll not succeed on all unless you have high skills.
