Ok, so I've already posted this on another forum and partially resolved the issue:

Ok, here's the deal. I've finished PT probably about 20 times now but on my old computer,
[AMD Athlon XP 2100+
512 RAM 266Mhz
GeForce 4 Ti 4200 64 Mb RAM 4x AGP]
and it worked fine, but now I have a new computer,
[Intel Core 2 Duo 2,4Ghz
2 Gb RAM 667 Mhz
GeForce 8800 GTS 320 MB RAM 16x PCIe]
and the game runs better, BUT, when a character casts a spell the game semi-freezes (the frames drop to like 1 every 4 sec) and it keeps doing that for like 4 min then it goes back to normal, except if there are buffs on a character, in that case the "freeze" lasts longer!
I've tried everything, from reintallation to patches (1.1 and 1.11 beta), it's not sound related since I turned of the sound in game at one point and it was still the same, so it has to be graphic related...
and yes, I have changed the graphic presets in the control panel to lowest most compatible mode, and still nothing! I've ven tried compatibility modes (Win 95,98 and 2000) still the same..
PLEASE if any1 has ANY ideas what to do please tell me!!

Try this:
Display Properties ---> Settings ---> Advanced ---> Troubleshoot ---> Set Hardware Acceleration to the third notch from left
---
Baron_Of_Hell’s Music Profile – Users at Last.fm
----------------------------------------------------------------
So basically that worked, but now the cursor is making trails! Though it does not make them in the gameplay screen, it makes them in the first menu (or any menu for that matter), the GUI (inventory, spellbook, etc.) and in the dialogue!
It's really annoying, so if any1 has any ideas how to fix this, please help!
Also my other question is regarding the HW acceleration slider.. I found a script online which automatically drops the slider to 0 (HWAccelSwitch - Teslacore),
but I just want it to change it to the 2nd notch..
If any1 knows what paramaters/values to change in the script to make this work, it would be helpful..
But this is 2nd priority.
