Disc playing up

This is more of a technical question and I'd really appreciate it if someone knew the answer as i don't want to panic just yet! My disc keeps sticking and not loading in the xbox 360. I keep getting an error message and it's taking longer and longer to load but it does eventually. Now my concern is if he disc dies and i buy another one will all my achievements still stay locked in the xbox or do I need to start from scratch?

All your achievements stay with the 360's hard drive. Changing the CD you play with affects nothing and you can continue from where you were. But I'v heard of CD reading problems arising from quickly switching the consoles standing position. Most likely lens gets damaged but its not common so i dont think you should be worried.

The hard disk cache gets fragmented after a while and Bethesda recommends holding down the A button until you see the Bethesda logo to clear the cache. That speeds up load times and game performance for some people. If your disk is really going bad and it doesn't have any obvious scratches or damage, you might be able to convice the store where you bought it to replace it free instead of buying another copy. If it only happens to oblivion it probably isnt the cd drive itself, but if happens in other games too then you might be able to get a replacement 360 at the store where you bought it because Microsoft has had some well publicized reliability problems with the console.

Like Belthan said try clearing the cache first. (Once you do this load times will be slightly longer at first but it will soon speed up.) Or instead of trying to just replace try getting a place like Gamestop to reface it. I'm not sure if they do that or not. Or try buying a disc doctor which usually works. It worked for me about 2/3 of the time as long as the scratches weren't too deep.

Thanks for the advice. It's just the oblivion disc that it does it with. I'm going to try what you've advised and let you know if it works. I should get a disc doctor thing anyway (didn't know there was such a thing) and i'll give clearing the cache thing a go when I put it on in a bit. Just having a coffee now to wake myself up
