I know there are loads of post about people having problems with fallout 2 on windows xp, and im pretty sure ive read just about everything there is to say about them. I've read a few that address my problem, but they dont seem to have an answer (within the post) and are several weeks old.

When I try to install fallout 2, it does nothing but give me a blank blue screen. where it just stays. I've tried changing compatibility and all that good stuff, but as everyone already knows there isnt a XP compatibility.

Anything I'm missing?

i know what problem you are referring to, I have had it on my machine aswell.. It did this for Fallout 1 also.. I had a totally blue screen but when I moved the cursor around it would "wipe away" the Blue and I could read the actual installation screen.

I don't know if you tried to move your mouse around at all (i'm assuming you had), before doing a ctrl+alt+del and ending it.. But other than that I have no clue what caused/causes it :\ I wish I could give you more help than the mild remedy I encountered, bud.

It sounds like graphical problem, so my suggestion would be to change the resoltuion of your screen to something lower, like 800*600, and/or change the ammount of colours to something like 256...

Not sure how these would help the installation progress, but at least worth of trying.

Have you tried to change the ammount of colour for your computer? Or the resolution?

Also, have you tried to change the compatibility of the game's executable to something else, like Win95/98?

Yep, I've tried adjusting every resolution I can and every compatability

What kind of computer do you have? Mostly, the info about video card and DirectX and operating system would help?

Also, is it possible for you to try to install the game to another computer? If you don't have second comp, perhaps friend's computer? This may help to eliminate few possibilities, basically wether the problem is in the cd or in the computer.

Fallout 2 blue screen on install SOLVED

if you are using an ATI card that is a little bit older (under the 9250) you must use old Omega drivers! You can find the one that worked for me here:
ATI Omega Drivers Archive
I had to install version 3.8.252
I was able to install the game, the high-res patch, and play flawlessly!
