Problem with RPG

Hello
1. I have problem with Wizards&Warriors game. When I come closer to any monster or bad guys they are attacking me FIRST
When I meet 7 monsters they attacking me one by one and just after the last monster attack it is my turn
Isn't there any turns or something?
Can anybody write me how the battle is looking like?
2. When I'm attacking some monsters there are written "target misses, out of range". I am close to them. How could I know if my object of attack is on range?
3. In options menu there is 'Safemode Override'. What does it mean? I am not english.
