Less is More,they say

After being bored to death by Titan Quest here I am again, wondering if I should reinstall Morrowind or not :) I've played through the game only one and a half times (insofar as you can actually "finish" Morrowind) and everytime I reinstalled it since then, I spent an afternoon looking for mods that I'd want to use, installing about a 150 and then giving up on the game after two days. If I'm going to play it again now I'd want to do it with only a minimum of mods, that is to say only the ones that are needed to make the game so much better that you can't do without them, or mods that are just so plainly brilliant that it would be a sin not to install them; but since I've haven't really kept track of mod releases for the last year, I've absolutely no clue which ones that would be. So if you can give me any advice, please do so :)

Start with those recommended in the sticky thread. ;) If you have questions about any of those, however, feel free to ask.

Or if you find any on PlanetElderScrolls that look intriguing, just ask. Many have been used by at least a few of us.

Also, there should be few mod-threads in near past, so perhaps trying to check few first pages to see those threads... ;)

Couple I can recommend offhand:
Seyda Neen Complete - makes Seyda Neen a lot bigger, includes at least one quest, and three different houses for you to claim.

Balmora Expansion - Makes same to Balmora what Seyda Neen Complete makes to Seyda Neen. May be a bit laggish with low-end computers, but at least in my computer it was playable.

Balmora Expansion is a great compilation mod. But if Balmora already slows you down, you might want to consider instead Balmora Expansion Lite. Removes a lot of nice foliage and little things, and speeds it up almost to normal.

Balmora expansion comes bundled with IndyBank, a fairly good banking mod...

I used Indy Bank the last time too, but it turned out to be incompatible with The Illuminati mod (one of my favourites) which happens to place a house in the exact same spot as the Balmora Bank. I tried to fix it with the editor, but couldn't work out how (merging the plugins and then moving one of the houses didn't help).

Are there are any types of mods you are especially interested in playing?
That might help narrow things down a bit ;)

If you'de like simple work done like just moving things about I'd be happy to help. Your INDY Bank problem shouldn't take more than a minute to fix.

Some things I'd be most happy to have in my mod list:

- an 'Adventurers' style mod that changes some of the leveling systems quirks
- at least one texture replacer
- a face and hairstyles mod
- some travelling/teleport thing
- faction mods
- one or two cosy house mods
- some armours and weapons, but only if they're really nice and they're added to the game world in a smooth way (not hidden in cave x or house y)
- the newest version of Magical Trinkets of Tamriel (if I can find it)

What factions are you planning on joining? Just to give us some more ideas.

Abu's Retreat...I'm using it now..near Pelagiad..
another very small one, I think its called abandoned shack....it puts a small shack in Seyda Neen

Texture Replacer
I have been using Ultimate Textures which is a compilation pack... Unfortunately, there is some controversy over whether or not the author acquired permission to use some of the textures, and I don't know what the current status of that discussion is. I ended up using it, though, because all other replacers were slowing my aged machine down quite badly... this actually speeded things up a bit. I also quite like the textures chosen, they are more natural-looking (as opposed to shiny), and in my view fit into the game world very nicely.
Here is another version.

heads and hair
Leeloo's Changing Faces

teleportation
Teleportation Spells. This is the best and most realistic teleport system I have used ;)

houses
Some of my favourites... They all fit into the small/medium category and they are definitely cozy.

Thirsk Retreat
Polar Bear Lodge
Captain Jack's House
Zelda Estate Renovation
Abandoned Treehouse

I also second BlueSky's suggestion of Abu's Retreat, easily one of the best!

If you are looking to browse, Telesphoros' List of Mods is always a good page to peruse.

He's made his own textures now so it's all good and it still looks pretty much the same. Better in my opinion.
