Hi,

I am trying to do the mutineed ship quest where you talk to golgondorin from bravil to get locations. I got to the gloom wraith and I ask is this a leveled monster that I have a chance to beat or a placed monster?

I am level 7 and with the akavari longsword (reward for joining blades) enhanced with a damage health weakest sigil stone, I was able to damage the wraith by maybe 25% (he had 75% left). He was doing steadily more damage than my health potions were healing and my restoration magic spell ran out of magicka. And I read poison doesn't hurt him or any undead.

Come to think of it I do have a potion of fire damage? I think I am on the right track unless its a level 20 monster and is impossible at this time.

So question 1) is this a leveled quest or a set level quest? 2) any strategies on gloom wraiths?

They're levelled; At 7th level all but the final creature will be ghosts, each one level lower than you (so 6th). The boss is as you noted, a Gloom Wraith, one level higher than you. All of them are immune to frost, so best bet is to wack them (need silver or better weapon, of enchanted weapon) with weapons enchanted with something other than frost.

Spoiler highlight to read:
Spoiler
at lower levels a weapon enchanted with 100 magnitude Drain Health for 1 second is a bit OTT, but might help stave off frustration.

I think the problem is he deals absorb health. He will scale better with difficulty because my ability to deal and heal will outpace his absorb health which doesn't level. Of course I do have more HP to cut through but a fire damage poison can cancel out his absorb health ray.

They're immune to poison as well as frost.

Its not clear to me if a potion of fire damage is a poison or if only damage health potions are poisons???

I think any potion you apply to a weapon is treated as 'poison'. Can't quote chapter and verse, but that's how it's always seemed to me.

okay i have two for you either sneak past him, use the khajiet eye of fear or use an enchanted dedric longsword instead of the katana.
