Well, quite a while ago I bought Fable: The Lost Chapters and completed it... brilliant game, then after a few years it broke... Then, quite a while later, I found a cheap preowned orginal copy in Game, and bought it... When I got home and turned it on, I found I had my old character and it was the LOst Chapters Version... WTH!?

mm...well even when you uninstall a game...if you use windows well, windows pretty much doesn't care about left overs in a computer. So maybe it's an old file, readed by the game's memory.

The fact that it is still TLC surprises me, but yes almost every game will neglect to delete your saved files these days. Has nothing to do with your OS though.

pc or xbox?
if pc:there is no original version of fable for the pc,only tlc.
if xbox:if you bought it with an original fable cover(box) then it is most likely that you got the wrong(but better) cd.
or they misprinted the disk(happened to me once)
does it say Fable:The Lost Chapters on the main menu?
does a big blue box ad apear after the lionhead one?(before the main menu loads)

Why do you care Tlc is better obviously dont get confused I would love that to happen but just creat another profile too. And enjoy your old one aswell. You dont have to redoo it all. And the guild isn't burnt down.
